they look sort of like kangaroos with wings to me, except really hunched over. the second one looks like it could be part dragon, and both look like they could be part flying.

If they stand slightly more upright, then they could possibly have pouches. Or at least the second one, in which case the first one could be a fledgling/joey and ride in the pouch of the second one. The dexes could include the first one riging in it's mother's pouch untill it can fly, and the dex of the second could say something about it helping it's young to fly and protecting it untill it can.

going from the kangaroo idea, I decided to look up info on other marsupials, to see if it could find something other than a kangaroo to base the pokemon on. one animal I found is the Cuscus, a creature that lives in trees and is part of the possum family. they can be about as large as a house cat, but we know that pokemon don't have to be anything near the size of creature's they're based on. they look somewhat similar to the pokemon in the sketches, with long tails, short, thick legs, and a slightly pointed snout. The end of the tail curls up, and instead of having fur it is scaled, a bit like a rat's tail. The fur can be a number of colors, including white, yellow, many shades of brown, and black. As for possible info on how a pokemon based on this creature might battle, I found this: "the cuscus has few enemies. If another animal threatens or annoys the cuscus, it will strike with its front paws. It will snarl and bark loudly, usually scaring the intruder away." also, "Males are aggressive and cannot be kept together in captivity."

I think this is something we could work from. what does everyone else think?

Well I'm glad someone like the cuscus idea.
As for coloring, the first one could be yellow with a few white and black splotches on it, like the coloring on a cuscus. (i could find pics if anyone wants them), and the second could be brown with more splotches. The tails could fade to a pick color at the end, to go with a cuscus's half-scaled tail.
anyone have any ideas about what the wings would be colored?

sounds good to me, too. Hmm, Cuscun sounds a bit like "cushion". Perhaps Cusmy has trouble learning to fly, so a parent Cuscun flies under it to catch it if it falls. It could have very soft fur, so it'd be like landing on a soft cushion. No idea how we can justify it being Dragon-type, tho.
