I know the last post here was made months ago, but I still think this Pokemon should be Water/Steel, and I will support my suggestion with the next statements:

+ Because of its size in the sketch, Anchronade it's obviously what is known as a "Bulky Water" (a Water-type Pokemon with high HP and Defense, like Milotic and Slowbro). So, Steel type would give Anchornade many resistances that would support its job of tanking.

+ Realistically, Anchornade would need lots of strength to carry his heavy, iron tail; so it would have, along its high HP and Defense base stats, high base Attack, making of him an excellent choice in Competitive battles if someone is looking of a Water type tank.

+ Steel-type Pokemon tend to have high Defense, while heavy Water types (like Anchornade) tend to have both high HP and Defense (hence the term of Bulky Waters; I want to point out that this doesn't mean that ALL Water Pokemon are Bulky Waters), so giving Anchornade these types would mean that, if it doesn't get high Attack stat, it would get an insane amount of base Defense stat. This high Defense would allow Anchornade to survive his newly acquired weaknesses because of Steel (Ground and Fight; not Fire as Water type resists it), as the most common attacks with this type in competitive environment are physical. In addition, Anchornade would be able to learn Iron Defense to further increase its Defense.

(EQ, the most common Ground attack, is physical. The only good Special Ground and Fight attacks are Earth Power and Aura Sphere, and only a few Pokemon can learn these moves. The only thread would be Focus Blast, which can be learned via TM, but its accuracy is really low)

+ Again, because of its size, Anchornade doesn't seem to be a fast Pokemon (high Base Speed stat), so tanking is be the best Anchornade would do, and as previously mentioned, Steel type supports tanking.

+ Gyro Ball would gain great attack bonuses if used by Anchornade (STAB + Anchornade's low Speed)

I will also add disadvantages of giving Anchornade Water/Steel type:

- Steel is the worst type offensively as it is only Super effective against Ice and Rock (and the last one is already covered by Water type). So, Anchornade's second STAB choice would be relatively weak. However, it is possible to cover this disadvantage by giving Anchornade moves like EQ, Stone Edge and Avalanche for increasing its type coverage, at the cost of a weak Steel type attack (unless you use Gyro Ball).

- Since Steel types tend to have low Sp. Defense, Anchornade would be vulnerable to Grass and Electric type attacks, and both are often Special attacks in the competitive environment (Thunderbolt, Giga Drain and Solarbeam).


Now, to be fair, I will mention the advantages of disadvantages of giving Anchornade Dark type:

+ Anchornade would be able to learn Crunch, which is a really good physical Dark move in my opinion, if not the best.

+ Since most Dark-type Pokemon have high Attack or Sp. Attack, Anchornade would also get either a high Attack or Sp. Attack, being Sp. Attack the best for him as the best Water and Ice attacks are Special (Surf and Ice Beam respectively; Don't forget that most Water types can learn Ice Beam via TM). High Attack wouldn't be bad either, because Anchornade would inflict high damage with EQ and Stone Edge.

+ Anchornade would be immune to Psychic, but this is not a great benefit if you ask me.

+ With Dark type, Anchornade would gain two great STAB choices.

- As I already mentioned, Anchornade would get low Speed because of its size, so it won't be an effective "sweeper" (Pokemon with high Speed and either high Attack or Sp. Attack), and sadly Dark types tend to have high Attack or Sp. Attack (see Tyranitar, Sharpedo, Weavile and Darkrai)

- Anchornade would still be vulnerable to Electric and Grass attacks, and would also gain Fight and Bug weaknesses (Bug is not really a thread however)


In conclusion, Anchornade would get more benefits from Steel type than from Dark type, so Water/Steel type would be the best for this Pokemon. That is if you, the creator, want your Pokemon to be powerful and OU (OverUsed) in Competitive Battles. (I hope everyone here is know about Competitive Battles or know what EVs and IVs are)

NOTE: As I am not familiarized with PF moves, I used official moves as examples.

And finally, if you support Dark type and want to defend it, you can try to find more benefits (that make sense!) that Anchornade would get from this type and post them here.

Yeah, I can't go against that statement because it's completely true so there is no problem for me if you make Anchornade Water/Dark.

And besides, all the stuff I said is kinda irrelevant right now (maybe later will take importance) because, who will care of competitive battles in the RPGs?
