When Spinuscule was still Spinarak's pre-evo, Ungoliath (called 'Furrantula' back then, because Galvantula didn't exist) was an alternate evolution, still Bug/Poison but with a different base stat distribution than Ariados' (its eyes are a reminder of that era, if you look closely they're basically Spinarak's eyes outstretched). Then came the idea to take Spinuscule out of the line and put Ungoliath at the end as a counterpart to Ledior, and since that pokémon had a different secondary type than its predecessors it made sense for Ungoliath to do so as well, even if it didn't end up too fitting in the end. That said, I have an idea to 'Dark-ify' the pokémon a bit more which I'll share with the Staff.

I'm surprised it didn't even have Crunch at the very least. I mean, that would have been obvious to do, I thought. *shrug*
