I'm definitely looking forward to the release. Can't say I'm impressed with the titles, though.

Also, if there's not a Dark Gym I'll be very upset.

Worst nightmare possible. They made a Pokemon game for the 3DS the one thing I don't have. Nintendo has really got to stop making DS'. Anyway, new game, yay.

Dragon Quest is really popular and successful, right? From a business perspective, why not copy Dragon Quest?

Well, Pokémon probably has much greater sales than Dragon Quest, which could be precisely because it's not like Dragon Quest. However, it's impossible to analyze all variables of Pokémon's success individually.

So do we carry on making sprites, or should we start hiring 3d modellers..?

Please keep on making sprites. The fourth generation of PF Pokémon isn't even complete yet.

But seriously though...
You know that happens in real life right? There isn't just two or three kinds of frog/fox/rodent?

Also I'm 80% sure that the grass starter is some sort of hedgehog, which isn't a rodent.

Wow. Just, wow. Every new generation is awesome. The pokemon themselves never disappoint me, save for some of the gen 4 ones. But the story better be good. Gen V's wasn't long enough, at least in the first two. And I haven't played Black and White 2 yet (broken DS, never bothered to buy the games because of it. If I knew how to work the hacks, I'd download one...). But the story should be long and engaging, not just a short run through and BOOM, now you gotta fight lv 80 pokemon with nowhere near enough to train against...but enough of my rants. I like the deer pokemon, and the frog starter is my fave. I hope its not another Unova, a region based on a single city. But X and Y...and now they're releasing it worldwide instead of Japan first, then the rest of the world. That's good. I might be able to get it and a 3ds.

I actually completely disagree with you on Gen V's story. I thought it was way too drawn-out, I feel like they were trying too hard to create an epic RPG-style story when that's not really Pokemon's style. I think D/P/P pulled off the Pokemon story much better - you should focus on developing the world and villains rather than creating a complex backstory and moral ambiguity.

You do have a point on the villains. But I did prefer Team Plasma to Team Galactic. The Unova story just seemed kinda short to me. To me, it seems shorter than Diamond/Pearl/Platinum did. Maybe because in White, the postgame was kinda lacking...It was just like searching for random legendaries. Little more than grinding against wild pokemon for hours to take on Alder. I was happy to know that they put Dive back in, but disappointed that there was only one place with dive spots, and there wasn't very much there except stuff to sell.

Wow, a surprising amount of hate for the new games here! I like the names, although I am doing a math's degree so I'm so used to seeing X, Y, (and the inevitble Z) that in just feels right to me, and I also liked the starters, sure thy're similar ideas to other pokemon but they don't look very similar to others, it may be another fire fox but it doesn't look like vulpix, it may be another water frog but it looks nothing like poliwrath/toad, and I thought the chipmunk thing looks like a nice step back to when starter designs looked quite basic, as opposed to the ludicrisly overdesigned oshawott...I must say, I wasn't very excited for Gen V when that was first announced but this I can barely contain myself for! 3D graphics in battles look super smooth, looks like core game mechanics will still exist with a nice lick of 3D paint, so again, I have to ask: why all the hate??

I also like the names X and Y, though I'm not sure if there will be a Pokémon Z, considering that we never actually got a Pokémon Gray. I also like the fact that the main legendaries aren't growing in complexity any more, I'd argue that Xerneas and Yveltal look quite simple compared to the legends from the previous two or three generations (Xerneas slightly less so, but mostly because of those horns).

By the way, Fennekin is based on a Fennec fox, so yeah: different species.

Is anyone else thinking about going into the new Generation blind, knowing only the names and appearances of the Starters, the Mascots, and the Cover of the games?

Edit: Also, Yveltal is a Wyvern; not a bird; not a dragon.

In fact I was just discussing with my housemate whether I could get all the way to october without finding out any extra information on the games, what pokemon are in it ect, take me back to the days when I started pokemon crystal without a clue what all the new pokemon were! Don't know if I will be able to do it though...
