I panted my short legs carrying me as fast as I could go. The wind from the sea was strong today as it whipped my auburn hair about my face. I wanted to get to the lab before the rain hit town so I would not get wet. Living in a port city was nice the smell of the sea was always nice and if you looked hard enough you might see a shadow swimming through the water. I learned at an early age the names of most of the pokemon that swam here. I stepped up onto the small porch like area attached to the lab. Pausing a moment I caught my breath and leaned against the building.
Rolling up my sleeve I peered at my watch. 6:17am it said in bright green numbers as I pushed the button to light it up. I was early as Professor Aaron would not be here till seven. Sighing I sat down on the cold stone. I watched the trees whip back and forth in the wind. The clouds were dark; heavy with rain just waiting for that perfect moment to let it go. When we had first moved here from Ciutat, Kansai I was 5yrs old and I remember my mother shouting at the weather. It had often washed out her garden back then and I helped her replant over and over again. Within a year however she had a greenhouse built with plexi glass so it wouldn't break. Once it was up it was rare for it to be washed out. She taught me many things about these plants. Aloe, Ginger, Rock weed, and how they helped with pains, fevers, and dryness.
I looked over towards the forest wondering how the mines were doing. I thought of my father and how he works there cleaning out rocks. It constantly floods during storms like this. Fortunately here 4months ago they installed a drains system leading to the sewers so the mine would not flood as bad; but before that they had to use buckets and carry the water out. It was hard work and I remember the times I sat there watching them. I always offered to help but they would say a mine is no place for a little girl, so I often just watched and bring lunch to my dad. On his days off he would sometimes help out at the library. He is a smart man but he just doesn't want a great job. I had asked him about it once and he said, "Sweetheart, I would get a better job but half the people as smart as me are jerks. I would not want to work with a man high on himself. Humbleness is the greatest of all qualities."
Looking at my watch again it was a quarter till seven. I stood up brushing my butt off I looked out watching the road for the Professor.
