"I have an idea." Gecko said, frustration in his voice. "Do you have any Pokémon? I'd like to prove the worth of Unovians against you in a battle."
Unless you're so terrible a Trainer yourself that you have no Pokémon, Gecko thought.
The Rattata on the rock started chanting "Ratt! Ratt! Ratt! Ratt!" as if trying to encourage a fight.

Lisa just stared at Gecko, with a large smirk on her face. Then she yelled,
"Fine! Okapako, go!"
She threw a Pokeball, revealing a tiny okapi Pokemon.
"Oka!"

"Pokédex..." Gecko muttered. Finally (and hoping he hadn't taken too long) he found his Pokédex.
He found the description interesting, but not useful. He wasn't sure what type Okapako was.
"Mudkip!...Do you know any moves other than Tackle?"
"Mud!"
"Mud-Slap?"
"Mud.." Mudkip growled the syllable and tapped its foot.
"Use Tackle!"

Lisa just scoffed.
"You don't even know your Mudkip's moveset? Fine; I'll show you how to battle. Okapako, Confusion!"
Okapako's eyes glowed pink, and then lifted up Zip and, after a psychic explosion, the Mudkip was sent hurtling back.
"And that's how you battle!"

Gecko glared at Lisa.
"Zip....zigzag to Okapako and Tackle!"

Gecko had read that a zigzagging target was more difficult to aim at. He hoped this was true; there was not much Zip could do with only Tackle.

Kit was to busy defending himself from an onslaught of Rattata's to notice Lisa and Gecko battling. Apperntly the first Rattata he fought was a leader or somthing because after that Rattata's seem to hate him for no reason.

"On the bright side Wingull is gaining a lot of experience." Kit thought.

"Okapako, show them a real Tackle!"
The okapi Pokemon charged at Mudkip, and they both met head-on; however, Okapako took less damage than the Mudkip did.

"If you act like this when you battle against my parents then you'll never win."
She then walked up to Zip and gave him a Full Restore.
"You need to learn about your Pokemon before you enter a battle."

(To be honest, Gecko seems destined to lose in this battle...if he did not have Terrence the Kabuto. He is not giving up, though.)

"This would be much easier if Zip knew something other than Tackle!" Gecko replied, incensed by the pity gesture. Nonetheless, he stashed it in its bag. It could be useful, but he didn't plan to use it in this battle.

"Tackle's not working..." Gecko thought. If moves weren't working, what about techniques?

"Stare at it like a pervert!"

Zip's eyes enlarged strangely. Unblinking, it stood, watching Okapako's every move.

Both Lisa and Okapako had the biggest most confused look on their faces. "Okapako, another Confusion!" Okapako once again flung the Mudkip into the air.

This is hopeless, Gecko thought, especially when Zip did not rise.

He recalled Zip. Fortunately, it occurred to him that he still had another Pokémon: Terrence the Kabuto.

"Go, Terrence!"

Soon as Terrence formed, he commanded: "Terrence, use Harden!"

Fortunately, Gecko's hunch was right, and Terrence did indeed know Harden. Terrence's brown shell shone, and a clicking noise, as if many locks were being latched, resounded.

Kit had just fought off the last Ratatta, when Terrence used Harden. It took him a while to realise that it was Terrence, at first Kit thought he had a bug in his ear.

He walked to Gecko wondering why he had Terrence using Harden. When he walk to Gecko he saw that he was in a battle with Lisa. Knowing not to interupt he just sat down, and watched the battle continue.

"Yeah, Harden's a good start...if your opponent only has physical attacks! Okapako, Confusion again!"
Okapako's eyes then glowed pink, and Terrence was lifted and hurtled.

"Terrence use Rock Polish!" Gecko screamed. He wasn't sure how he knew Terrence knew Rock Polish; maybe the shininess of Terrence's shell gave him a hunch.

When Terrence hit the ground, he slid on his back like a dropped piece of soap. Gecko guessed the sliding landing minimized the damage, as Terrence didn't seem to flinch. Then again, would Terrence the ever-staring even be able to flinch?

So that's what Rock Polish does. That's unusual. But Terrence needs to attack.

Unfortunately, Terrence was on his back. Like many hard-shelled insects with legs on the underside, he found it difficult to rise to his feet.

"Okapako, use Confusion to get Terrence back on his feet."
Okapako picked up the Kabuto with psychic powers, and gently put him back on his insect-like feet.
"What?" Lisa asked looking at Gecko, "I can't fight a Pokemon that can't fight back."

Terrence's slipperiness gave Gecko an idea.

"Terrence, use Rock Polish again, but on your feet!"

Terrence's legs shone in response. With his newly slippery legs, he briefly scrambled to balance himself.

"Now skate toward Okapako with a Harden-assisted Tackle!"

Gecko hoped Lisa wouldn't notice that he made more than one command in his turn.

Neither Lisa nor Okapako reacted in time, and the little Pokemon went flying.
"Nice!" Lisa exclaimed. "That's how a Trainer should battle; now let me show you how I do it! Okapako, use a Confusion-powered Stomp!"
Okapako's eyes glowed pink again, but it focused the psychic powers onto its hoof, and it charged at the Kabuto.

"Harden and stand your ground!" Gecko quickly squealed. His voice was becoming increasingly high with his desperation, (and adrenaline) but he was too focused on the battle to feel embarrassed by his girlish pitch.

Terrence hunkered and the sound of many locks clicking was heard.

Okapako stomped on the Hardened Terrence, and Okapako made a face that looked like it stumped its hoof. It then hopped around wildly.
"Nice defensive play! Keep it up, Gecko, and maybe I'll take back what I said. Okapako, now let's show them we mean business! Hidden Power!"
Okapako eyes then glowed white, and an orb of yellow energy formed in front of Okapako. Then the orb was shot directly at Terrence.
