Gameplay (controls, multiplayer, levels, non-linearity, special features like level editing, replay value, etc) is and will always be what defines a videogame. Make no mistake, a part of me loves story as well as the art-style (instead of how realistic it is) otherwise the Paper Mario franchise woudn't be my favorite franchise ever. But when people know more and more videogames they tend to stay with the ones that contained what they liked the most and forget what matters in videogames: Entertainment, be it to have a laugh or pick you up. Morals and unforgettable moments are an add-on. Great ones but add-ons nonetheless.
