Proof that the mainstream feature known as "storyline" is taking over among today's gamers. First it was graphics, now it's story. Gameplay (controls, multiplayer, levels, non-linearity, special features like level editing, replay value, etc) is and will always be what defines a videogame.

Make no mistake, a part of me loves story as well as the art-style (instead of how realistic it is) otherwise the Paper Mario franchise woudn't be my favorite franchise ever. But when people know more and more videogames they tend to stay with the ones that contained what they liked the most and forget what matters in videogames: Entertainment, be it to have a laugh or pick you up. Morals and unforgettable moments are an add-on. Great ones but add-ons nonetheless.

Story is important, but Gameplay comes above all other elements. At the end of the day, Super Mario 64 is a way better game than Arkham Asylum, at least in my book. We don't call Contra, Tetris, Spyro, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Castlevania masterpieces for their stories.

I don't even like Batman Arkham Asylum. Lego Batman was ok... But Arkham Asylum.. No.. just no. Actually Spyro & Castlevania had stories. Search it up. A prime example for Spyro is the new Skylanders.

Skylanders looks so.....ugh.......so "Hey kids! This is COOL Spyro!"......ugh.......

I loved Batman Arkham Aslym. Shame on you. :P

But we don't praise Castlevania and Spyro for the quality of their stories. The old NES Castlevania was this: Kill Dracula. If I'm not mistaken, Spyro was basically "Free all the dragons!"

I know but an example is an example. Like it or not Skylanders is a part of the Spyro franchise. Blame Toys for Bob for developing it, Vicarious Visions for developing it for the 3DS & Activision for publishing it :P

I understand that it is. The only thing I disagree with is calling it a "prime example". I'd say it's more of a sub-par example, myself.
