Since Generation 4, people have been complaining that "the new Pokémon" look too "Digimon-like." Indeed, Pokémon have been becoming more complex and inventive in design since Generation I, and this is particularly pronounced in the legendaries. (compare the level of detail in Bidoof and Reshiram.) However, does this really mean they were becoming more "Digimon-like"? How does one define "Digimon-like?"
Digimon, like Pokémon, are highly variegated. To my knowledge, (which mostly consists of some Internet browsing of species prominent in the anime series) the features of being four-limbed, bipedal, having big, colorful, shiny expressive eyes with black outlining, being either based on dragons/dinosaurs or cute mammals, having stripes and facial markings (stripes or other shapes) and complex mystical body markings (e.g, yin-yang), having three forward-facing claws of equal size on the feet, and having very clothing or accessory-like decor (belts, bands, rings, and less commonly, earrings, jackets, pants, and sleeves) seem common. However, the species prominent as partners of the child protagonists could be underrepresenting or outright misrepresenting the actual diversity of Digimon. (if all a person saw was Lilithmon, Angewomon, LadyDevimon, the person would probably assume all Digimon were like them.)
Could some Poké-Digis shed some light on this accusation?
