A very surprising move! As Moppnttef pointed out on IRC, we get more plot, instead of a little extra on the old plot. Seems good to me!

I wonder if we'll get an older version of Hilbert/Hilda to play as too..?

They could get this wrong in so many ways. While I am hoping for more new pokemon (secret gen 6 anybody?), It's more than likely that these newrems are all we'll see, so they're gonna have to devote more resources into creating an engaging story. I mean to be honest, the plots in the majority of pokemon games are mediocre; they rely on the selling power of new monsters to make a profit.

This is a very bizarre move. If there aren't any new Pokemon, then they better give us a great story, add a lot of new features and content, and/or improve it a lot.

SPECULATION TIIIIME...♪

Ok, so here it goes:
Eng101

-Black Version 2[: Electric Boogaloo] and White Version 2[: Disco Inferno] will be set after a short timeskip (perhaps 1 to 3 years).
-The landscape of Unova may or may not have changed significantly since that time.
-You will be controlling a new set of protagonists who recently moved to Unova.
-The original BW protagonist (Whose gender depends either on the version or the gender of the new protagonist) is the reigning champion of the Unova league.
-Triple/Rotation battles are now more prevalent (The Striaton triplets will try it and they will like it or so help me... Argh

)
-The Dream World machine has been upgraded and it is easier to obtain Dream World Pokemon.
-N returns to Unova to recreate the original Unova dragon that was split up into Reshiram, Zekrom (and maybe Kyurem).
-Ghetsis may or may not attempt to manipulate N again so he can wield the power of the original dragon for himself.
-Reshiram and Zekrom cannot fuse together by themselves, since they are polar opposites; Kyurem is the 'glue' that can bind them.
-N (or maybe Ghetsis at this point) catches Kyurem and fuses it to his own dragon to create one of the Kyurem forms (hence the color of the title matching with the box legendary) and wants to hunt down the other dragon that the BW protagonist/champion caught to complete the original dragon.
-Therefore, just before you fight the champion N and/or Ghetsis barges in and you're forced to have a double battle because it would be boring if you're just going to watch N battle the champion.
-Yay you win and N goes away again realizing that he doesn't need to do what he's doing.
-Black/White Kyurem is released and you can catch it immediately or post-game or something.
-Ghetsis goes to jail. (huzzah!)
-You realize you forgot to save the game all this time and you rage.

My turn to speculate

The player starts off in Hoenn.
The plot of RSE unfolds, with some updates and changes.
When you become league champion, Professor Birch gives you a ticket to a far-off land named Unova...

Pretty old news, but it's for the sake of completion.

I came here for a WMG I read on tvtropes. Very few wild mass guesses genuinely make me go "whoa", but this one seems very plausible:
"If you choose to play as Hilbert, then Hilda will appear as the hero who befriended Reshiram/Zekrom and defeated N some time prior to the new games' events. And vice-versa. That would explain why the opposite gender character was Schrödinger's Player Character in Black and White, breaking the tradition set up back in Ruby and Sapphire: they couldn't play an important role yet, they will be the hero of the sequel."

Sadly that sort of doesn't explain how they appear in the Battle Subway. Maybe it's non-canon or something. :P

Capcom did the same thing for Mega Man ZX and its sequel, so that sounds about right.
