"Fantastic. Young man, I'm sorry your name is escaping me.. Anyway Xoskillitn is a popular choice and is a very capable companion. Here you are." The young man released his Pokemon out into the world and greeted it, the slightest coddling tone in his voice could be distinguished if one wished.

After addressing the young man standing across from him, he had the girl come choose her own Pokeball from the random category. He mumbled something about not wanting to interfere with fate and choosing your own destiny while insisting that she choose. The trainer stepped forward and grabbed a ball that was in a layer deep beneath the rest, wanting to cast aside the surface and find a unique partner. As she drew the ball from the pile and stepped back she pressed the small white button on the front of the device, which sent out a stream of red light that formatted into the shape of....

A Litwick! Liiiiitt lii llii! It cried.

"Well, younglings, if you desire to nickname your companions, then do so. If not, then you may place it in its Pokeball in the slot on that machine over there. It will give you more information as to the nature and other details about your Pokemon." He motioned to a blocky machine on the near wall of the room that possessed a single, solitary empty hemisphere on its ledge that looked to be the exact size for a Pokeball to fit in.

When the ball was placed on the machine, it kicked on. Lights began to move and the screen turned a dark green before information began to arise in a white text over the background. It read as the following:

When Kenny burst through the door, his eyes struggled to adjust to the light, which was far brighter than he had expected. However, once the process of adjustment had finished, he saw something more unexpected even than the previous blinding intensity.

Open windows dotted the ceiling, which allowed in fresh air and sunlight. A grassy arena lay sprawled upon the ground in the format of a typical Gym Leader battlefield. On the other end of the aforementioned arena stood Aaron, Pokeball in hand.

"Welcome," Aaron stated loud enough to solicit a dull echo from the large, empty room, "Our last piece of business before you get started in Bombur will occur here. I hope your ready because your first Gym Leader Challenge will occur right now! Ledyba, show him what I mean!" Throwing the ball, a red laser shot out before materializing into a small bug PKMN with a red shell and black dots all along it.

Seeing the challenger's Xoskillitn chirp in such an excited manner gave Aaron goosebumps, a phenomenon he experienced often when engaging with such emotion.

"I'll issue the first attack," Aaron informed the beginner, "Ledyba, show him you're eager as well with a forceful Tackle." The bug PKMN fluttered in the air a moment before darting rather quickly at the opposing battler. Now we'll see this youngling's battle instincts. I wonder what strategies he will employ, thought the lab assistant to himself as he watched the opening moves of the battle unfold.

Aaron was a little shocked that his opponent didn't try to dodge his attack, but Xoskillitin are durable PKMN and now his attack is almost guaranteed to hit me..Hmm...

After a short period of pondering, Aaron was shaken back to reality by the resolution of his attack and the subsequent glare of the opposing PKMN. Ledyba was trembling and caught in its tracks. "Ledyba!" he screamed, but to no avail. He repeated this call over and over, hoping the ladybug PKMN would snap out of it in time to avoid his opponent's next attack.

The Bug-type did snap out of its trance-like state. Unfortunately this happened too late for either it or its trainer to react properly and the opponent's Scratch connected. Ledyba was sent up into the air by the attack, where it caught itself.

Aaron got an idea, "Dive bomb it using Tackle, Lebya!" The little red and black battler didn't even wait to reorient itself before heading downward toward its opponent.

Due to the awkward angle that its opponent was charging in at, Xoskillitin did not have sufficient time to turn to meet Ledyba with its Scratch. Ledyba slammed the little scorpion into the ground. However, this action compressed the Fire-type, which allowed its pincer's inertia to carry it onward and make contact with Aaron's Bug-type, albeit with less power or accuracy than had originally been intended.

When the two separated and regained their footing, Aaron spoke first in an attempt to gain the upper hand, "Growl! Time for a little intimidation tactic.."

Aaron enjoyed the choice of action on his challenger's part; it was exciting to watch, though that was a luxury the professor's aide couldn't afford at the moment, seeing as he had to battle.

The Scratch connected squarely wit Ledyba, who was still caught up in its last attack. The Growl ha weakened their opponent, however, and the Bug-type was able to recover quickly.

Counterattack time, Aaron issued orders, "Ledyba, use Tackle!"
