Inspired by AlexFantastico's Pokedex thread, I've decided to show off my Pokemon I've made so far and take a bit of input for ones I haven't thought of yet.

First off, you've probably seen these guys multiple times, but it's the easiest way to start off. The starters!

All of them are pure-typed. I was considering making Catermag Fire/Bug, but it would unbalance the delicate "rock-paper-scissors" the starters' first forms are supposed to have.

Bucketub looks like Pajama Sam.

I don't really see the resemblance. Sure, Sam's skin is blue, but... that's where I feel the similarities end. For one thing Bucketub has a bucket for a head... xD

These look like AlexFantastico's drawings. Did you use a tablet? (He did.)
Those are all great designs. (as for Bucketub...well, it has a good design.)
The names are suitable, too. (although Catermag's is the least so)
Rahjet is correct. Bucketub does resemble Pajama Sam, but mostly in its eyes. (Yes, I know Pajama Sam does not have yellow irises.)
If you gave Bucketub small, Chingling-like eyes, the resemblance would vanish.

No, I did not use a tablet, I am used to drawing with a mouse on MS Paint, rather than a tablet on Paint.NET. Yeah, you can probably tell that Bucketub is the oldest of my three starter designs, so it's not as good as the other two, but darnit I love that design. XD The Grass and Fire starters went through MANY altercations before ending up how they are, and I can't think of a better name than Catermag. >> I would want to do a pun involving "maggot" and "magma" but "Magmaggot" looks and sounds awful. Also, Bucketub's eyes are supposed to look like he's wearing goggles.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

Personally I would remove Bucketub's starter status and make him just another Pokémon, and design a new water type starter; one based on an animal. All official starters are based on animals (all are vertebrates also) and Fakemon that break this rule seem unauthentic.

Apart from that I wish you all the best on your 'dex.

Well, it is based on an animal. Or rather, a mythological animal. As it evolves it becomes closer and closer resembling a kappa. That's why it has a bucket as a head. Kappas store water in a dish on their heads.

EDIT: Does that mean you think poor Youthistle, Comolten, Xoskillitn and Sukus are unauthentic Fakemon? Also, not all Nintendo starters are based on vertebrate animals. Chikorita is based on a plant.

Yes, but (as AlexFantastico is probably going to say) it is also based on a sauropod.
I do think that PF's starters look unauthentic (and occasionally...well, not "bad," just "not on my team" for lack of a better term) because of their basis. However, they still look great.
I understand the spectrum of increasing kappa-ness, but still...among the starter designs, it is the weakest one.
You could always revise Bucketub to look a little more like a turtle, a crocodile, a primate, (a specific one, not a "general monkey" one *shivers*) a mole (some moles are semiaquatic, and it already has mole-like claws) or a prehistoric semiaquatic creature like a Pakicetus. (proto-whale)

As for Catermag, perhaps Vermagma (vermiform + magma) or Wormagma (worm + magma) could do?

Before I decided to make it a kappa, it looked more and more reptilian as it went on (it has reptilian claws) and ended up as a crocodile with a bucket for a body. But you are right, it is a rather weak design. (But it's bloody cute and it's my favorite starter of the three. XDDD )

Yes, I do think all the PF Pokémon you mentioned are very unauthentic. I would have a very hard time choosing one in the GSC series. They would all be okay as non-starters, but as starters they're just not quite right. They break pretty clear patterns laid down by Nintendo, which is something I thought PF aimed to avoid.

And yes, Chicorita is reptilian, well done at predicting what I was going to say, Coolsteph :P

Bucketub does look a lot better now

It went from the clear worst to potentially the best in my opinion.

It's not a "motionless" pupa like Metapod, Kakuna, Silcoon and Cascoon are, it's just rock solid. The Fire-line is quite defensive. And speaking of which, here's the next part of the line! The final evolutions of the starters!

I don't know how else to describe it but a pupa. XD Vermagma is supposed to be a beetle grub, and Pupauea is supposed to be the "mid-stage" of a beetle. Matching up with Insektoa being a big ol' beetle with a volcano for a shell. ^^ Speaking of which I love the names for Vermagma's evolutions. Pupauea comes from Kilauea, the Hawaiian active volcano, and Insektoa comes from the famous Krakatoa volcano in Southeast Asia. I'm kinda tempted to change Vermagma's name to involve Pompeii or something. Also gotta love Kapamako's name, the sushi pun is just priceless.

There's a kind of cucumber sushi called kappamaki (so named for the kappa's love of cucumber). Pompurm is ok but I like Vermagma. Not all of them have to have a volcano name.
