The ship was not large like the more famous cruise liners, nor was it a
cutting edge vessel - in fact, it had started out as a steam-powered
vessel, and had been converted later in life - but it was steady and
reliable, as it cruised southwards into the waters of the Bombour
region. It was a clear bright dawn, but still early, and so only one
person was on deck. They were young, just coming out of their teenage
years but dressed rather formally in a dark green suit. Dark hair blew
about in the light breeze of the ship pushing it's way through the
water, and as they leaned over the railings on the bow a tiny yellow
spider-like creature popped it's head from the jacket's top pocket.
"Good Morning, Pallas," her trainer, who's name was Charlie, greeted her, "we arrive at lunchtime. Just breakfast and then no more of this ship's food."
This seemed to disappoint the creature, as it rather enjoyed the menu in the ship's restaurant. Still, dry land would be nice after a few days at see. It's tiny size made every motion much more pronounced that it was for humans, and steady ground would make a nice change for her.
There was a crashing sound in front of the ship as a large, shark-like creature broke the surface of the water in front of it. The trainer reached into her pocket and drew out a small flat device with a single large screen, and powering it up inspected the creature.
"We're definitely in Bombur waters. The pokédex doesn't recognise it. So it's a water pokémon, which isn't surprising, but- type unknown? That's odd." The device was pointed at the insect, at one of the Wingull that circled the ship, and the Machop that was cleaning the deck. All three checked out as normal, suggesting the device was otherwise working normally.
"So it's that that's some other type. I'd heard they classify things differently here, but I didn't think anything could be that different."
Later that day, the ship finally reached Anchore Town. Pulling on a pack, and with a coat over one arm, Charlie walked off the ship, passing a middle-aged man struggling with a number of heavy bags and suitcases whilst his wife juggled carrying another with keeping three children and a Lillipup under control.
"Do you need help with those?"
The man was grateful as several bags were removed from his arms, but as soon as they turned to start walking the trainer received another bag to the face - well, almost. The arachnid in her pocket sent a shot of silk at the bag, slowing it and causing it to drop to the floor.
"Men should carry bags for ladies," a woman, who had only the bag she had thrown, told them, "it's just like them to only help other men. Chivalry really is dead. Now pick up the bag your bug made a mess off."
The man stepped forward, but a suitcase-laden hand checked him. The trainer then placed them on the floor, and walked forward to pick up the woman's bag.
"Thank yo-" she began, only to stop when the bag came back at her.
"You have one bag, so I'm sure you can manage it yourself. Chivalry isn't about men helping women, it's about helping whoever needs it. Besides," she continued, pushing her hair behind her ears, "I am a woman, so I guess I can help who I want, right?"
The woman, turning red, fled.
After a brief lunch in a nearby café, Charlie made her way up to what she had discovered was where the region's own trainers began, which was a white building, near the sea, and run by a Professor Idaho - although from what she's heard the man himself was absent. Someone was there though, because a child had just left, with a small blue hippo-like creature walking alongside. Charlie entered the lab slowly.
"Hello?" she called, looking around.
