Starting Pokmon Choice: Joltik, with Pursuit as an egg move.
Goal: Become a master of bug-type pokémon, and learn more about gym management.
Control Method: Normal verbal commands, but with some pre-arranged non-standard moves.
Description: Charlie is tall, slender and always well dressed, in an olive green suit over a white dress shirt and a cravat, along with a long brown overcoat. With dark hair kept at neck-length, Charlie is the image of a 'bishonen', or 'pretty boy', aside for one thing: She is actually a woman. Despite having some masculine traits, she is not actively trying to hide her gender, simply finding that her usual outfit is most comfortable for her, and generally only keeps the illusion of being male up for amusement or to avoid unwanted attention. She is a rather polite person, and is generally friendly and caring, even if she does seem a little distant. She almost always appears to be calm, having been raised to control her emotions and present a stoic front, and so it takes a lot to visibly rattle her.
Background: Charlie grew up in a small village on the edge of a forest - or rather, she grew up in a large house and estate close to one. As an upper class young lady, she had a rather formal upbringing, but the many bug pokémon around her home always fascinated her, and when she began to train pokémon, she began with a Caterpie she caught herself. Whilst she did use other types when younger, she always felt more comfortable with the bug-type, and began to specialise. She had soon become a renowned trainer in her home region, and was briefly a member of it's elite four, but found it rather dull, and soon left.
Recently, she has been asked to found a gym dedicated to the type, and intends to do so, but wants to travel more before being tied down. Hearing of significant numbers of unique bug-type pokémon in the Bombour region, she decided to tour the region, hoping to collect some specimens. To this end, she has left her current pokémon with friends, and has brought only a young Joltik she recently obtained.

Charlie has a pokédex, although not calibrated for Bombour pokémon or the region's unique types. The pokédex itself is essentially a touch-screen tablet computer with an A5 sized screen, but is linked to a battle display unit, which fits over one eye and provides information on a pokémon's health in battle, as well as basic pokédex data.

If Pursuit is ok then it's preferable, since it's better type coverage.

That seems right, since substitution isn't going to be a major factor early on.

I've added a secondary goal of studying the gyms, to better justify visiting them.
