I just learned in my clash today that Thrush is a fungal infection, usually found on the tongue or a woman's..... well you get my point.

I just wanted to say that.

I think the Water-type looking part of it is a direct result of the prominent raindrop patterns on its breast. Perhaps some storm-cloud/lightning shaped mystical runes instead?

Just want to say that Storm Song, summoning a lightning storm and all, really doesn't make sense for the thunderbolts emanating from it to NOT be attracted by the Lightningrod Ability, especially when you consider how powerful T-bolt is. However, I am fine with it if you're willing to reduce the power of the effect, for instance making it a Power-40 electric-type attack instead, thus making it akin to typed confusion damage.

Also I didn't know staff were actually allowed to post their suggestions in the regular board! :V

@Rahjet: I'm pretty attached to the raindrops, but I can see how raindrops plus other water colours would make it seem like a water-type. Maybe I need to go more grey and less blue.

@Moppnttef: Sorry yeah I don't know what I was thinking with it not being drawn to Lightningrod. Since that's kind of what they're for. To comrpomise on power, and becaues the code needs it, maybe the Thunderbolt uses halved versions of the user's stats - a level 40 Mistle with a SpAtt of 50 would call Thunderbolts made by a level 20 pokemon with 25 SpAtt.

I don't know when a rule about us not posting suggestions here came about, but I want people to see the process of when an experienced staff member makes a pokemon. Plus habit I guess XD

A competitive reason so as to keep it Magic/Flying: A Water/Flying type with Lightningrod would effectively have no weaknesses because the only one it has (Rock at x2) is covered by its Water type. Add that to the fact that there's a 20% chance of Mistle's Sp. Attack being raised at the end of every turn (so long as Storm Song is up) and Mistle's high Sp. Attack, it's already a Game Breaker enough on the rain team that dominates the metagame.

Also, this is an oxymoron; it can sing a song to create storms (I guess that's a Legend of Zelda reference), but the move Sing can be used to calm them. And Mistle can (probably) learn Sing through HM.

Flarsable: The metagame isn't my primary concern, but at least no type combination is weaknessless with the PF types. That said, I do want to make this a versatile pokemon that's worth using in battle.
Storm Song isn't a Zelda reference, singing to summon things goes back much further than that (native americans and rain dance, remember). All I did was reverse storms causing a mistle thrush to sing, so that its singing causes the storms.

Patricol: That's a good one for Dream World, but the weakness to electric makes Lightningrod the priority.

Volt Absorb, Motor Drive and Lightningrod make Electric-Type moves useless, but I think Volt Absorb should be used here due to only recovering health compared to raising a stat. Did no one mention Volt Absorb because:
a) you forgot the ability? or;
b) you thought it wasn't worth mentioning?

Volt Absorb kinda doesn't fit flavor-wise I think, as it currently still exclusive to Electric-types and it suggests the user runs on electricity not unlike Motor Drive.
Lightningrod, on the other hand, has long been possessed by two Ground-type families (And Seaking in the Dream World, heck yeah) and doesn't sound inherently 'electric'; only implying that it attracts electricity.

I also noticed that you (Bonzai) needed some help with the second Dex Entry and I propose these (>.< I just can't seem to make it sound right. More happier with the second one):

“During its early childhood, its innate ability to summon abnormal weather begins to develop.” (92)
“As it grows, its innate ability to summon abnormal weather conditions slowly begins to develop.” (95)

Took time to read the wiki articl-haha, Turdus...

I was a little alarmed when I discovered this is a relatively common bird (classified as "Least Concern" as well), and pretty plain looking to boot. Are you sure this the avian species you want to put advanced weather controlling magic to?

Without the Mistle Thrush the whole lot falls apart, so yes, I'm sure. It needn't be common just because the real-world parallel are common though. By that logic, mice would be only found in one forest, marsupials only in nature reserves, and meerkats in New York state. Also, with those long beaks, Zapdos and Moltres should be wading birds, Articuno's primary diet should be nuts, and mimes would be housecleaning slaves (according to the anime) that you can only get by.. trading them. That got weird.

Also, and I quote:

<========terrible explainer >_< I wasn't suggesting that the weather-wizard bird become common because it's a thrush, I was suggesting that it shouldn't be a thrush (or at least that kind of thrush) because it's a weather-wizard bird. Usually this kind of [real life] bird (plain color, common, not very notable) when turned into a Pokemon, usually end up relegated to being boring early route birds. I also think that it is unlikely that this is the sole species of bird that's associated with storms and other kinds of bad weather. ... wait did that make sense sometimes I'm not sure

Yeah, Cacapulse, the biggest problem facing changing mistle into another, more exotic bird is that bonzai has already drawn the thing. As an artist you know just how annoying it is to change something you created when in your eyes it's practically complete.

An albatross is also associated with bad weather. Mistle could pass for an albatross, due to its conveniently furrowed beak and typical stylizations. However, its name would not correlate as strongly with its basis if it were deemed albatross-based.

Articuno's beak makes it some sort of finch, like a sparrow; sparrows are far more common than thrushes. I don't think you're going to sway me with this argument :P

And like I said, if it's not a mistle thrush, the whole concept becomes meaningless, and I will withdraw the suggestion. Come up with an alternate bird based on something rare IRL that causes storms if you want :P
