When Leonard picked up the pokeball, he accidentally clicked the button on its front, releasing the Pokemon inside.... Miiiis vus'miss missdree, Leonard had ended up choosing Misdreavus as his starting PKMN.

"You know, young man, if you recall your PKMN and place its pokeball in the slot on that machine in the corner, you can learn a lot of information about your little companion there," informed the lab aide, "But before you do anything else, is there anything you'd like to call your new partner by as a nickname of sorts?"

As the young man did so, the machine kicked on and information flashed up on the screen. It read:

Misdreavus (Missy):

Lv. 5

Female

Ghst

Levitate

Moves:

Psywave [Psy]

The target is attacked with an odd psychic wave. The attack varies in intensity.

Growl [Nrm]

The user growls in an endearing way, making the foe less wary. The target’s ATTACK stat is lowered.

Spite [Ghst]

The user unleashes its grudge on the move last used by the target by cutting 4 PP from it.

Quick Spell: [Mag]

The user casts a simple spell that always goes first. It may also leave the target confused.

"Amazing, isn't it," Aaron observed, "What this machine can tell about a PKMN just by linking itself to the pokeball? Well, son, if you've got all this information down, grab your pokeball and there's only one last formality before I can send you on your merry way." Smiling, Aaron walked over to one of his file cabinets and sifted through one of its drawers, seemingly reaching for some insignificant file or another in the mess.

Strangely, suddenly and without saying a word Aaron walked away from the young man, who was confused by this action. The lab assistant opened the door to a darkened room and shut it behind him, leaving the young man where he was wondering what the man in the lab coat was doing.

Aaron saw the flicker of light as the young man opened and shut the door behind him. Then, on cue, he flipped the switch for the arena lights, which kicked on in sections. "Welcome to the Anchore Arena," greeted the lab aide, "While you may not have had knowledge of this beforehand, this Lab doubles as Bombur's first Pokemon Gym. Shall we begin, then?"

As Leonard's Misdreavus prepared itself for battle, Aaron released his first battler, "Nevermore, kick this battle off with a Peck!" The bird PKMN materialized from the red beam of light emitted by its pokeball and speedily flew at the Ghost-type, knowing full well that PKMN's Normal-type attacks would have no effect on this foe.

Dang! It's hovering prevents damage caused by collisions with the ground. This battle will certainly prove to be a challenge. The Ghost-type's attack was far too fast for the unexpecting Nevermore to dodge and it was knocked backward as a result. Luckily, the bird PKMN also caught itself in the air and flapped its wings at a slow, steady pace in order to maintain its altitude. "Growl Nevermore! Make it flinch," Aaron instructed.

Ghoulish, flamelike projections floated out from where the Ghost-type was and began to dance around its opponent. Nevermore glanced around, watching their movement and then began to look woozy and sullen. "Nevermore," the lab aide tried to grab its attention, "Don't let that attack faze you! Peck and fly out of there!"
