He's from Nimbasa City, the bustling metropolis of entertainment. Subsequently, he has a great interest in the entertainment industry, and loves rock, pop, techno and other, similar music genres. His parents are immigrants from the comparatively sleepy Sinnoh region, where children are usually sent out on Pokémon journeys at ten years old. In Unova, the law says that children may only begin Pokémon journeys at a minimum of fifteen years old. His parents (who were both Pokémon Trainers, and first met each other on their journeys) demanded that he be sent out to begin his journey at ten, but the governing body of Nimbasa City forbade it. They agreed to compromise (on the grounds it was cultural repression not to) and instead send him out when he was thirteen, but when he turned thirteen, the governing body did not stick to its earlier promises and stated he could journey only when he was fifteen. Gecko offered a way to circumvent this problem: he would travel to Rominel, which allowed journeying at thirteen.
