The doorbell rang with a sharp buzz, slightly hurting Hydro's ears. Suddenly, a spot above the metallic door opened and a surveillance camera appeared, "Bzzt! Who's here? ...Oh! You must be the young trainer that Baobab wanted! Here, I'll open the door for you." The camera withdrew into the small cache above the door. As it did, the door slid into the side. Hydro found this quite odd, seeing as most doors open inward, but he shrugged it off. He then noticed that the inside of the lab was well-furnished and had a lavish appearance. It looked more like a rich person's villa than a lab. Still, there were little gizmos and doo-dads lying around on tables and desks littered with papers that had complicated, frustrating formulas written on them. Obviously someone had been working hard today, and it was true, because a young woman walked up to Hydro from the desk she was sitting at.

"Pleased to meet you, Hydro." She greeted him as she shook his hand, "I am Heidi, one of Professor Baobab's aides. The Professor is awaiting your arrival, he is very excited to see you. After all, you're very gifted. Now, why don't you follow me? I'll take you to his office. Come." Heidi walked slowly through the hallway with Hydro. She was quiet at first, but then she began to make conversation, "You know, Hydro, you're a very important kid with a big responsibility. Pokedex holders don't have the easiest jobs, you know! Piled on with the fact that you're going to help us arrest C is just... crazy!" Heidi exclaimed, "...Ha ha. Sorry if I'm making you nervous. It's just that... I'm honestly a little envious of you. I never got to go on an adventure as a trainer, not because I didn't want to, it's because I had no choice in most as a child." Heidi began to frown a bit, but smiled as though she was assuring Hydro not to feel sorry for her. "...Anyway, I shouldn't be getting too personal with you. It's unprofessional."

Hydro and Heidi reached their checkpoint, an elevator. "This elevator..." Heidi said, "...leads to the Professor's office. Aren't you excited? I bet you are! This is something that a lot of beginner trainers look forward to, you should be proud!" Heidi and Hydro stepped inside the elevator. Heidi then pushed a small, clear button on the left side of the elevator. As it went up, its motors whirred and worked hard like they always did. Finally, the elevator stopped abruptly, screeched a bit, and its doors slowly opened, revealing Professor Baobab's office. The office was huge and spacious, it had a large fountain in the middle with small, potted plants throughout the cavernous room. "Here we are!" Heidi exclaimed with an excited tone, "Allow me to take you to the Professor, Hydro." The two walked by the fountain and reached the Professor's desk. "Greetings, Professor, I've brought the future Pokedex holder. Would you like for me to give you two a minute?" The Professor turned around in his chair and put down a dark-green mug he was drinking out of. "Yes, please! I would like to have a moment with him." Baobab's voice was smooth, deep, and calm, almost unfitting to his style and appearance. "Yes, sir. If you need anything, do not hesitate to contact me or my colleague." she replied, "I know, I know! No need to tell me twice! I'm not senile yet, missy!"

"Ah ha! You're too much, Professor. I'll leave you two alone now. See you, Hydro." Heidi exited the office. "So..." Baobab said, "I believe you're aware that your coming-of-age is today. You've been chosen to help Chrysalis and the International Police Force in the capturing of C. I'm very proud that you've accepted this great responsibility. Don't worry, though! You won't be doing this alone! My aides, Heidi and Genevive, will be constantly monitoring you, and the International Police Force will be helping you along the way as well. Even I will be with you on occasion! So keep in mind that you'll always have help with you. Anyway, as of this moment... you are officially a Pokedex holder!" Baobab exclaimed excitedly, "Now, follow me to the main room of the lab, there, I will give you everything you need for your journey." Baobab rose up from his chair and led Hydro back to the elevator. Once again, its motor whirred 'till it stopped at the first floor of the lab. Hydro and the Professor entered the room in the hallway. The sign on the door read: "Invention Room"

Inside the room were many gadgets and machines, some seemed finished and ready to be used and tested, while others looked incomplete with tiny screws and tools scatters around the tables they were laid upon. It was as though someone hadn't finished working on them. The professor walked to a large steel cabinet in the wall at the end of the room. He entered a password on the number pad in the center of the cabinet and it suddenly opened with a loud thud. Inside the case was a myriad of useful-looking trinkets. Baobab took a small watch-like device off the shelf. "This is what we call a Cross-Transceiver, or X-Transceiver, for short. It's a nifty little device that allows us to communicate with you. For example, allow me to call Heidi." Baobab pressed a small green button on the X-Transceiver, causing it ring. After two small rings, Heidi picked up, her face revealed on the X-Transceiver's screen. "Hello, Professor, I take it you're showing Hydro how the X-Transceiver works. That's great! I bet he likes it. By the way, tell him that I'm ready to give him his Pokemon! So meet me in the Bio Room!" Heidi hang up and the X-Transceiver went into Sleep Mode. "Neat isn't it?" said Baobab, "Here, attach it to your wrist." Baobab gave Hydro the X-Transceiver and he curled it around his wrist and attached it. It was a bit tight, but Hydro will most likely get used to it. If you wish to contact any of us, all you have to do is press the red button there to turn on the power, then, scroll down the list of contacts using that pad. When you have the name of the person you wish to contact, simply press the green button and they'll appear on the screen. After a call is made or when it is not in use, the X-Transceiver will go into a mode we call 'Sleep Mode'. It basically preserves battery life. Don't worry about replacing batteries, though! The X-Transceiver generates its own electricity using natural elements such as light, wind, and even movement. It also has an Information menu which tells you about many, many things. I'll let you figure out how to use that on your own. For now, let's head to the Bio Room."

Hydro and Baobab left the Invention Room and entered the Bio Room, which was right next door. Inside the room was a healing pad often used in Pokemon Centers, it also contained three windows which looked out into special rooms that had Pokemon playing around in them. "Hello!" greeted Heidi, "This is the Bio Room, where we study and analyze Pokemon, their behaviors in their natural environment, and their interactions toward other Pokemon. As you can see, these rooms are Artificial Habitat Simulators or 'AHS'. They are temperature controlled and contain certain amounts of water and vegetation depending on the needs of the Pokemon we are studying. Anyway, I have your Pokemon waiting for you! I chose it to fit your personality. Here, follow me." Heidi, Hydro, and the Professor walked to another door that was between two of the habitat simulators. Heidi turned the door's knob and opened it. It simply led to a small hallway, which contained a device that look a lot like an airport's metal detector. Heidi disabled it using the number pad on the wall, however, since it was not needed at the time. They then entered the room through the door at the end of the hall. It looked like a battlefield one would see at a gym. "Alright! We're at the fun part now, Hydro! Here is where you'll test out your new Pokemon! Take this Pokeball, throw it, and check out your starter! I'm sure you'll like her! She's a special little Pokemon. Now go on, throw it!"

(Holy moly, sorry it's so long, Oran!)

A small, pink and white creature with horn-like growths on its back that resembled coral stalks. "Cor! Corsola!" The creature cried as it ran to Hydro and hugged him lovingly. Already, the Pokemon had taken a sudden liking to Hydro, and this made him feel very good. "Aww, how sweet! Do you like her? I hope so, because she certainly likes you!" Heidi exclaimed, "Now, let's go to the Pokedex-CPU, a computer of my own creation, and take a look at Corsola's data." Heidi walked up to the large computer, pressed a button on its side, and it booted up by itself with an audible 'boop'. The screen lit up and showed small 'sprites' of many Pokemon. Going from the first ever officially registered Pokemon, Bulbasaur, to many others. Heidi scrolled down to Corsola's 'sprite' and clicked it, revealing a page with all of Corsola's data. "Let's examine it, shall we?" said Heidi:

(They're holograms, yeah. And sorry I haven't posted in a few days! I had just written what I wanted to and my stupid browser crashed which made me have to rewrite it all, and on top of that I've been busy with school. Anyway, I'm back now, so expect faster replies.)

"Good job, Hydro!" exclaimed Heidi, "For a first-timer you're pretty talented, but that's to be expected from a Pokedex Holder. Anyway, you're almost done. Follow me to the main room of the lab and I'll give you your final assignment." Heidi shut off the simulator, the room's lights, and exited the room with Hydro and Baobab. Heidi walked excitedly to the main room, almost leaving Hydro and Baobab behind. It was strange, though, because she seemed more excited than Hydro-- yet she wasn't a Pokedex Holder going on a grand adventure to catch evil villains for a righteous organization for the sake of everyone on Earth! It was as though this was the only fun she had in a while. Finally, Hydro, Heidi, and Baobab entered the main room. "Alright, Hydro, this is your final assignment! Once you complete it, you'll be off on your own! ...Well, almost. My colleague and I will still be monitoring you, and so will Baobab from time to time. Also, the International Police Force will--" Heidi stoped herself, realizing she was saying way too much, "Oh, you know what? I'll just stop blabbering on and give you your assignment. As you know, near the outskirts of Pan Road is the Cluckloo Forest, waiting there is my colleague, Genevive. I want you to talk to her, simple as that, and she'll show you something... special. Oh, and before you go, I'd like you to have these." Heidi grabbed a small, black box on her nearby desk and handed it to Hydro. "Inside that box are five Pokeballs. You'll need them since wild Pokemon will be popping up frequently throughout your travels. I'm sure you're familiar with catching Pokemon, so there's no need for me to show you. Anyway, go on, Hydro! Good luck!" Heidi waved to Hydro before he exited the building, while Baobab simply smiled as Hydro left.

"Eeeek!!"

A sudden shriek echoed through the dark, murky forest, the sound slipped through the thick grass and trees and into Hydro's ears, causing him to shiver in fear. A young woman in a lab coat quickly leaped out of a nearby thicket and tripped on her face right next to Hydro. "Ungh..." She groaned in pain, holding her bruised head, "Why... why did Baobab send me out here? He knows I don't do well with Pokemon! Grr! That stupid careless, little--!" The woman abruptly stopped her hateful rant when she noticed Hydro right beside her. "Oh...! I, uh... I take it you're the, uh, Pokedex Holder they call Hydro, am I correct?" She asked as she smiled embarrassingly, "P-Please don't tell my boss I said that... It's just that, y-you see, Pokemon don't take too kindly to me for some reason and I often avoid them because of that, but I was asked by my boss, Baobab, to come out here and show you something." The woman fixed her hair and adjusted her glasses right before continuing.

"Just now I was tackled by a wild Shroomish and that's why I screamed... Dear-oh-dear... I apologize if I scared you. Um... where was I...?" The woman stood there and thought for a moment, unknowingly causing an awkward silence, "Oh! That's right! M-My name... it is... Genevive. Heidi is my coworker, although... she is more like a sister to me. And as for Baobab, well, that old coot is my boss. He knows well enough that I don't do well with Pokemon but that old man sends me out anyway! Ugh, sometimes this job really gets on my nerves..." Genevive, still mumbling to herself, pulled out a small trinket from her pack. The object looked very similar to Hydro's Cross-Transceiver, except it had an orange color with the design of a Pokemon on it. Genevive frustratingly mashed the buttons but at the same time tried to work the device as though she knew what she was doing, however, she wasn't, and that just made her even more angry. Finally, she got it to work, and with a deep sigh, she connected to Hydro's own Cros-Transceiver. "Alright... there. I've added you to my Cross-Transceiver. Now we can communicate with each other wherever-whenever." Again, she sighed heavily and spoke once more, "Unlike my coworker, Heidi, I study humans. Anatomy, behavior, physical traits, emotions, brain function, everything. I'm... basically here to help you out when you're down or frustrated. I also know a lot about helpful plants and herbs, in case you injure yourself on the journey. So, um... yeah, just call me if you need me, k?" With relief, Genevive bursted out of the forest and headed back to Pan Town, still mumbling profanities and holding anger at her boss.

A short moment after Genevive left, Hydro's Cross-Transceiver rang with gleeful tone. "Bonjour, Hydro! This is Heidi speaking. Did you meet Genevive yet?" She asked happily.

The night was a bit noisy, and unusually cold, but bearable. Hydro could hear the sounds of nocturnal Pokemon buzzing from place to place, making little cries and whimpers to their fellow pond-dwellers. Later on that night, however, the sounds died down, and it seemed as though everyone was asleep.

"CRACK!"

A branch snapped very loudly, waking Hydro from his slumber. Suddenly, a creature ripped through his tent and nearly made it tumble over Hydro. "Get the bag in his tent! Hurry!" A voice yelled orders to the creature. Whatever that creature was, it zoomed like a blur back into Hydro's tent and grabbed his Cross-Transceiver. "Not that you idiot!" The exclaimed in anger and frustration. It was obvious that this trainer was not very experienced. "Grr... I guess it'll have to do... Let's go!" The mysterious trainer tried to run away with his partner-in-crime, but tripped and got his shoe stuck in some fallen branches, allowing Hydro to get back his stolen device.

"Oh no... Oh no..." He mumbled to himself as he tried to undo the branch, but he was unsuccessful.

"Y-You..." Muttered the trainer, a young boy who looked around Hydro's age, as he tried to hide his face with his black jacket while his Pokemon, a Yanma, perched on his shoulder and comforted him, "You don't deserve your position as the Pokedex Holder!" The trainer jerked his foot out of the branch's grasp, brushed off the dirt on his slick black pants, and angrily glared at Hydro, "I should've been the Pokedex Holder!" He exclaimed, "You are weak. I can tell from the way you talk, move, your mannerisms, everything! You obviously can't take down Chrysalis if you're not powerful, and you can't expect to be powerful in the future if you're weak." The mysterious trainer put up his chin, trying to make himself look superior to Hydro. "Hmph, from the look on your face I can see that you don't agree with me. Well, why don't we have a battle? You're going to lose, obviously, but I'd like to see the look on your face when your dreams are crushed!! Yanma, Sonicboom!" He cried with an immense, passionate fury.

Quickly, suddenly, and underhandedly, the boy's Yanma launched a powerful shockwave at Hydro's Pokemon, knocking them back.

Hydro's Corsola struck the boy's Yanma with its water-veiled body, knocking the oversized dragonfly to the ground. "Maaa..." The Yanma whimpered a bit, as though the tackle hurt more than it should have. The boy yelled to his Yanma as it fell, "Yanma! Hit his Corsola back with Quick Attack!" His Yanma tried to get up, but it couldn't muster the strength to do so. Upon closer inspection, Hydro noticed that the Yanma looked pale, sickly pale. Worriedly, the boy ran to his Pokemon and picked it up, "Y-Yanma... Why...? Why can't you... Ugh!" He quickly looked up at Hydro and shouted at him, "I'll be back, Hydro... I-I swear to it! And... and next time... you'll lose!!" The boy quickly ran into the deep, dark trail that lead to Minte D'Villes and vanished. Hydro saw him crying and holding his sick Yanma close to his chest as he ran. It seemed as though the boy was more frustrated than angry... confused and hurt as well.

Strangely, as fast as the battle began, it ended the same way.

Suddenly, Hydro's Cross-Transceiver began to ring. A voice appeared afterwards, speaking loudly through the device's speakers, "Hydro! Hydro! Are you all right?!" Hydro immediately recognized the voice, it was Heidi's.

"What an... interesting encounter." Heidi commented, scratching her tilted head, "Well... at least I know that you're alright, and that my movement detector is working great!" Heidi exclaimed with a feeling of great accomplishment. After an awkward moment of silence Heidi spoke,  "...Uh... I guess I should hang up now. We both need sleep, so, err... goodnight, Hydro. Genevive will check up on you in the morning. Good-bye!" And with an audible 'boop' the Cross-Transceiver disconnected, leaving Hydro wondering what to do about his damaged tent.

The mornings in L'Archel were always very pleasant, especially near Clementine Pond. In the early hours of the morning, Surskit come out to skate and play atop the clear waters of the pond with their Masquerain parents while families of Lotad and Lombre bathe and swim in the water, simultaneously giving rides to other Pokemon that are unable to swim. Small, plant-like Pokemon such as Cherubi and Budew come out to absorb the morning sun's life-giving light, even the Drifloon and Drifblim living in the depths of Cluckoo Forest come out to see the sun and float with the cool careless breeze. This clockwork-like morning is so simple, yet magnificent to watch! It's almost as thought nothing could disturb such wondrous creatures. Sadly, Hydro could not stay to see the Pokemon start their day, after all... he has a job to do.

"Beep-boop-bum-bee!" The Cross-Transceiver rang with a gleeful tune, breaking the forest path's calming silence. "Good morning, Hydro!" Called a voice from the Cross-Transceiver, Hydro immediately recognized it as Heidi's. "Did you sleep well despite the fiasco last night?" She asked.

((That's okay. Waiting for you just gets me even more excited to post. : D))

As Hydro walked to the well-known blue building, he noticed someone familiar standing outside the glass doors of the pokemart. The person seemed to be impatiently waiting for someone. Her annoyed, yet bored expression reminded Hydro of someone: the aide that he had met in the Cluckloo Forest, Genevive! "Hm?" Genevive noticed Hydro staring at her, "Oh. Looks like he's here. 'Bout time, I was beginning to think he'd never come." Genevive walked up to Hydro as the memory of her getting attacked by an unknown Pokemon hit him, "Uh, hello there, Hydro. I'm... Genevive. I'm here to... uh, give you something important and some other junk. Honestly, I wasn't even listening to Heidi when she told me what to do, so... yeah, here it is." Nonchalantly, Genevive gave to Hydro a small package that she had been carrying in a satchel that belonged to Heidi.

"This is the part where you open it, I guess. It's probably some new invention she wants you to have or something like that."
