"Do you have everything?" James's mother asked him for the umpteenth time.
"Yes, Mumma, I have everything. I've made sure about five times!"
"OK." She paused and burst into tears. "I'm gonna miss you! Call me often, okay?"
James broke down too, "I will, I will." Another pause. "I gotta go."
And with that he left. For all of five minutes.
"Crap. Forgot my phone!" He packed the smartphone into his stuffed pockets and headed back out amid his mother's watery chuckles.
The path to Professor Idaho's lab wasn't a very long one, and James had walked it many times before. He said hello to all the people he knew along the route, and then diverged from the path to grab some iced tea. Then, back on again for the lab. He eventually reached the impressive building and entered.
"Bonjour! Professor Idaho, I'm here! Today's the big day!" he called out to the oddly empty lab. Then in walked the Professor's aide with his Nevermore. "Oh, hey, Aaron. Where's the professor?"
