Pokemon, you have such potential. Sigh. But you fail to use it a lot of the time. Although Black and White look like they're trying some cool new things (although the Starter names, and some of the design schemes *coughGenieTrioandGearEvolutionscough* aren't very great), they are getting into a routine, and this really disappoints me. Pokemon was one of my favorite games growing up. If I had to pick the 3 games that got me into gaming, they would have to be Super Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Pokemon Sapphire (Zoo Tycoon and Age of Mythology got me into PC gaming, but that's a different story). Pokemon was THE handheld game for me. I'm shocked that I never caught them all when I was a kid, because I spent so many hours laboring on Pokemon (now I'm just too darn lazy to catch all of them :P). But the routineness really shows in the games. The list of examples goes on quite a bit (Professors giving you a starter, 8 gyms, elite four, etc...) and even the storylines go pretty much the same. Am I asking for something completely new? No. I just wish Pokemon would try to be bold and new again. I enjoyed the GCN games when I was younger because they introduced new elements, such as eliminating gyms and leaders, introducing shadow pokemon, and presenting it in 3D. Granted, it lacked in areas, but it tried to be bold like the originals. Or Pokemon Mystery Dungeoun. I've never played it, but in it, you get to control Pokemon! That's pretty new. Unfortunately, though, it is also starting to become routine.
But now I'm going off on a tangent. What I am trying to say is that I'd like Pokemon to be bold, and try new ground, and not be afraid to go in the tall grass (XD). Things like biomes, or weather effects, or a well-written storyline, or some side-stories, or downloadable content, or other things. Personally, here are some suggestions.
1. Pokemon MMO (The choice I think would be the best)
-A Pokemon MMO would be AWESOME! Think about it. Exploring vast world, catching lots of pokemon, and doing lots of fun things, all while simultaneously interacting with people online, and doing things like chatting, making friends, making groups, trading items and stuff, and other cool stuff! And if they made it MMO, instead of replacing the older games, they could just release patches with new world, and features, and pokemon. I would LOVE this.
2. Pokemon for the iPhone
-This would also be a great idea. Lots of people have iPhones. Lots of people would buy this. And using Wi-Fi capabilities, touch-screen features, and Game Center, iPhone would have lots to provide for Pokemon.
3. NOTE: This would (probably) never happen. This is just what I think would be awesome. I would LOVE this. Here it is: POKEMON GONE RESIDENT EVIL!!!
-I've never played Resident Evil, but I know enough about it to know that Pokemon Zombies (caused by Pokerus :P) would be the coolest thing ever. Not only would you have to deal with lumbering pikachus coming after you, but they're shocking you to death! And you could catch pure Pokemon, and use them to fight the Zombies! It would be the best!
Sorry for rambling, but I hope you see what I am trying to say. I feel that Pokemon has been letting us down a little these past few years. Granted, we haven't been let down as much as Sonic fans (no offense), but I really hope Pokemon starts getting their hands dirty again. Thank you.
