Remember that in most cases of animal/plant hybrids in pokémon, it is probably simply an animal with a symbiotic relationship with a plant. For instance, Bulbasaur and its bulb are completely different species that have evolved to live together in order to increase their chances of survival. Bulbasaur gains protection through the vines and spores in the bulb, and the bulb gains a mode of transportation to get away from its natural predators.

In the case of Leafeon, I'd say it evolved the ability to photosynthesize through molecular changes in its genome caused by radiation from the Moss Rock. Same goes for all stone/trade evos.

Oh, and by the way, the origin of the word golem IS from Jewish folklore and in most cases a golem is an animated anthropomorphic being created from an inanimate object (such as clay) through the use of magic or biblical powers. I'd say that the pokémon Golem isn't actually a golem but more of a reptile, and that its pre-evolutions probably are more golem-esque (seeing as they don't exhibit any reptilian traits). On the other hand, the Regis are most definitely golems. :P

But EP, what is called "evolution" in Pokemon isn't really evolution at all, it's metamorphosis. When a tadpole turns into a frog, it's still the same species. Coolsteph has the right idea. All the Eeveelutions are the same species, and in the Eevee stage, different kinds of radiation trigger dormant genes which cause it to "evolve" into different Pokemon. But all the Eeveelutions will still give birth to Eevee's. Also, we didn't evolve from Neanderthals, both Homo Sapiens and Homo Neanderthalus have a common ancestor which we both evolved from. We're evolutionary cousins.

True, I think the majority(?) of grass Pokemon are symbiotic with plants but some actually evolved photosynthesis. I think Leafeon is the only mammalian Grass type? Oh wait, there's Shaymin as well. But most of them are reptilian.

I agree that Golem must be a reptile, but that means it's pre evos must be reptiles too. Since they all belong to the same species.

Well, it could be like locusts. The environment for desert locus nymphs presents the situation of having the close physical contact causing the insects' hind legs to bump against another. The stimulus triggers metabolic and behavioral changes that make the insects transform from a solitary form to gregarious form; and change physically, such as in coloration and that they become shorter. Eventually, after forming a swarm, those that survive predation return to a solitary form. Hence, hypothetically if the locust nymph did not have their hind legs bumped against another to present the stimulus, they would not "evolve". Thus, Eevee could be a locust nymph with the optional transformation into an "evolution" being permanent, depending on the environment.

Thus....no need for different species and subspecies, since they all produce the same Eevee.

Exactly, that's what I think too Coolsteph. Eevee's species name would be something like Felis Adapticus. I'm assuming it's a feline, but that's open to debate.

So are (arguably): Bannette (and thus Shuppet) and Claydol (and thus Baltoy), though Bannette was made of evil emotions, or something, so that's up to interpretation.

Hmm...

Okay, I will begin with the Bulbasaur Species.
The dexes say that it has a seed on its back that it is in a symbiotic relationship with. This means there are actually two species, a flower in the plant kingdom and a reptile in the animal kingdom. Another possibility would be to consider it one species, in which case it would either be plant or the half animal half plant kingdom.

I think that the first one would be more scientific but the second one would definitely be easier.

Well....it could be like humans. They have many species of bacteria in their guts, however humans are considered only one species. Hence, the Bulbasaur and its bulb could be considered only one species, since Bulbasaur cannot live without bulbs and the bulbs probably cannot live without Bulbasaur.

Plant wise, maybe it could be a subgroup....."plant-assisted" animals?

Yeah, it's one species. Just like the Paras line and their parasite mushrooms are all one species, a parasitic seed and its host is just one too.

All the kinds of bacteria in our gut have their own species, something other than Homo Sapiens. Sea Anemone and Clownfish have a symbiotic relationship, but they are not the same species. Humans, or any animals for that matter, would be unable to live without plants making food. That doesn't mean we are plants.

Indeed. Like Mitochrondia's possible bacterial origins---inextricably integrating themselves into a more favorable environment, as provided by another kind of organism. They have their own independent genome, too. Hence, Bulbasaur's plant-side cells grow more plant-side cells.

I am surprised at how I recognize some of the scientific names from other obscure words. For example, fulgur---I recognize that from fulgurite, which is sand struck by lightning, and thus has relation to lighting somehow. Irascor from Irascible, Iratus from Irate.

And yet... you just called mitochondria mitochodria, not homo sapiens. I feel inclined to agree with SoR on this one - there are plenty of organisms in our world that have other things they are inextricably attached to, yet they are different species.
Now... I feel that pavidus is the wrong root - we need something talking about really strong venom or something. And I think Rattata should have something about big teeth instead of being angry.
