Taxonomy for Pokemon?

I have occasionally tried to classify all Pokemon, and one of the other members (Void) mentioned he had too. It came up when we were discussing the odd case of Remoraid and Octillery. So I think we should indulge in our nerdy, guilty pleasures and attempt an unofficial classification of all Pokemon!

PS. Please don't mention Black & White Pokemons thanks, I'm trying to remain blissfully unaware of them as much as possible :P I want to be surprised when I run into the grass for once

First I'm putting them in major groups, after that there's sub groups like Primates, Felines, Lizards, Turtles, etc

So, will there be Kingdoms and Phyla?

Kingdoms: Animalia, Plantae, Phyto-Animalia (For stuff like Bulbasaur), Golemna (for stuff like -you guessed it- Golem), Fungi.

If we're going to use the same classifications as real science, then yeah. But we are going to run into some tough questions, like, are the rock types really rocks, or are they some kind of animal with rocky hides? And what about Magnemite? What does it come under??

Easy solution. I made a "Golemna" Kingdom. For all supposedly life-less objects.

I saw that, but I could contend that Golem for example is actually a reptile who has a stony appearance. Look at his claws and head.

And where do ghosts get classified? They would need a kingdom too.

Psyduck and Golduck would be birds. Slowpoke and Slowbro are mammals. (Although Slowbro is up for debate, as it is part mammal, part crustacean.. hmm..)

I think it would help if we state what properties a Pokémon must exhibit to be classified into particular groups. For example, birds have feathers. Golemna must seem inorganic, with any organic-looking features seemingly convergent to "conventional" organic Pokémon.

It's quite probable that Psyduck and Golduck have slick feathers that you can barely see, like a penguin.

Slowbro and Slowpoke have no visible hair, but then again, neither do hippos, which they closely resemble.

As for the Nidoran lines, they seem to be based off of rodents of some kind. Also, what about legendaries? Should they be grouped conventionally, or have a group of their own?

Hmmm...depends on legendaries, perhaps.

Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos are undeniably birds. Latias and Latios, for all we know, could have come from an early offshoot of "birds", when they gained feathers but before they gained beaks.

Palki and Dialga have no reason not to be classified as some kind of reptile.

Arceus, due to its mane and posture (four legs), is a mammal. Heatran could be a reptile, since it seems more befitting as a reptile than a Golemna.

Remember non-dinosaur prehistoric creatures? We could assume that some Pokémon are somehow mammal-like reptiles* (synapsids) that have survived to the present day. This might make classifying Nidoran a little easier.

*Lycaenops is one, and my favorite among the group.

According to the manga, all Pokemon are actually one species, and the differences between the species are actually subspecies. That explains why they can breed.

I think that Golemna is a bad name for an inorganics kingdom because they're not all made of rock and certainly not golems. I think it should be like Inorgana or Mineralla (rocks are minerals, I think) to make things clearer. Machop, Machoke, & Machamp are mammals because they're based on bodybuilders, which are humans, which are mammals. I agree on the Nidoran rodent statement that Void made. Rattata & Raticate also apply to this, obviously, because rats are rodents. Oddish, Gloom, & Vileplume are all Plants.They just have limbs. Slowbro's tail is technically not a part of its body, as it is not linked to the brain & body by nerves, skin, muscles, bones, veins, or arteries.

P.S. Taxonomy is the organization of Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, & Species, amongst Super & Sub forms.

Also, some Pokemon can't be classified since they're manmade (Porygon, Castform). And the Nidoran line is actually based on rabbits, not rodents or synapsids...

I know, but...I offered it in the case that it might make classification easier. Obviously their basis is rabbits, but what about Nidoking?....there seems no evidence that Nidoking has much fur, if any; it is possible that Nidoran have slight fur, but as they evolve, they lose it. I still think the Machop line is some kind of synapsid; they look reptillian.....and I do not know many mammals with bluish skin.

Thus....classification parameters would help.

Well, we could list the manmade and legendary ones "Unclassified", but that would be lazy, no?

@Flars: If Wikipedia is correct, a "Golem" in Jewish folklore is any animated being created from inorganic matter.

@Coolsteph: Most cetaceans only have a tiny bit of hair, such as dolphins, where you normally don't see. Even any land mammals don't have fur, such as elephants, or rhinoceros. The Nidoran line could be similar to that.
