the current idea I have for their appearance is a spherical body that comes out to a point at the back. On its face there is a single crest that comes out of the forehead and it tilted back. It has two stubby legs that resemble moon craters (making its footprint resemble a letter O) These along with a mask like pattern on its face, make the head resemble a star if you were looking straight at it. Behind it there is a trail of ice crystals.

Ok. For the name I have: Cometeor (Comet+Meteor), Frozing (Frozen+Zing, a sound used to describe something fast), Comento (Comet+Tarento, japanese for star), Shootisu (Shooting Star+Aisu, japanese for ice), Kenkomet (Kenkon, japanese for universe+Comet), Cometeiru (Comet+Teiru, japanese for tail), or Hoshoot (Hoshi, another japanese word for star+Shooting).

Might I recommend an appearance that does not boil down to a sphere with eyes? I've seen untold amounts of suggested Pokémon that look essentially like that...

I don't see how a shooting star could be anything except a ball with eyes without making it too similar to Lustar and Crystar.

It's always possible to take inspiration from an animal or myth related to shooting stars or give it limbs or a body of some sort, etc. But in any case, the Pokémon's design is up to the creator, and it's ultimately up to the Factory staff as to whether it's acceptable or not.

Take note: this is pokemon. The fact that no animal is not related to shooting stars does not prevent you from making it so.

I personally think some sort of bird that had to do with stars is a pretty awesome idea - or just something that went so fast and was so bright people thought it was one.

Maybe a luminous mushroom! Or angler fish, or several other things that are luminous. Or maybe a cheetah or hawk, if you want to emphasize the fast part.

Ok, I think I might have an animal for it... a "Moon" Rabbit (insert Sailor Moon joke here). A crest and its ears form the top of the star and the bottom could either be stripes on its cheeks or its teeth. Since rabbits are covered in fur, it fits the rest of my description.

Edit: Despite the fact that Umbreon already is a Moon Rabbit, I think this is dissimilar enough to count as a different interpretation.

An anglerfish? Those live at the bottom of the coean. We already have anglerfish Pokemon, anyways.
