Right I'll get strait to the point I'm Writing a Pokémon Fanfic that is set in Michigan anyways one of the locations in the fic is called the Sleeping Snorlax Dunes which are based off the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Anyways in my story the Grate Sprite (Unown/Arceus or perhaps a fake pokemon based off of him.) crates two islands one called Yawnlax Island and one called Munchlax Island based off of (North and South Manitou Island)
Here is what I had in mind note the reason it lacks very much detail is that they are meant to be a brief area depictions and tell a bit about the history of the area, it should be noted that I kept true to the legend of how the dunes and the two Islands were formed, also it should be noted that Yawnlax dose not actually show up in the fic.
Sleeping Snorelax Dunes - This Lake Shore is known for it’s vast Sand dunes, according to an Ojibwa Legend a large forest fire in Wisconsin drove a mother bear and her two cubs into the lake for shelter, determined to reach the opposite shore. After many miles of swimming, the two cubs lagged behind. When the mother bear reached the shore, she waited on the top of a high bluff. The exhausted cubs drowned in the lake, but the mother bear stayed and waited in hopes that her cubs would finally appear. Impressed by the mother bear's determination and faith, the Great Spirit created two islands (Yawnlax and Muchlax Islands) to commemorate the cubs, and the winds buried the sleeping bear under the sands of the dunes where she waits to this day. (Sleeping Snorlax Dunes is based off of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which means Yawnlax and Muchlax Islands are based off of North and South Manitou Island.
Yawnlax Island - This Islands name came bout do to a mistake by a French explorer named Captain Boardman who was exploring the Island he noticed a small blue furred bear with a yellow stomach and herd it yawn then say lax, thus he named it Yawnlax then named the Island after it, however later that same day Captain Boardman went to the Island to the north....
Muchlax Island - He again encountered the small bear apparently it had snuck aboard his ship, he was however disappointed to learn that the bear’s full name was not Yawnlax like he thought but rather it's full name turned out to be [I}]Munchlax.[/I] he then named the north Island after Munchlax, he then wrote a long letter to the king of fence explaining his mistake in detail, while he did consider naming them North and south Munchlax Islands the King of France made a royal decree as his penitent his mistake shall remain thus this is how the Islands got there names...
But yeah I was talking to Miravistel and she said Quote Rose says: "If you just want a passing reference to Yawnlax, that's probably fine. Might want to ask the staff in general, just to be sure."
And thus that's why I posted this and yes I do realize that I talked more about the legend then what the Islands actually looked like, also I been planing out my fanfic but one thing I did want to include was the legend of the sleeping bear dunes, and well Munchlax and Snorlax are classed as black colored Pokémon so yeah they fit do to Michigan having Black bears...
