Ever since some unpleasant encounters with viruses, which have been claimed to from the same site, I have been blamed for causing two laptops to be locked from the Internet until expensive repair procedures by professionals could be installed. The site in question I do not want to leave permenantly; thus, as I do plan to come there again, I seek to be sufficiently protected against the virus in question that I have encountered, and viruses and other cyber threats in general.
The virus in question caused a pop-up of something called an "AVG Security Suite" to appear from the lower task bar, with a grammar mistake in the balloon (which is why I suspected it was unsafe). The AVG Security Suite, claiming that it was unsafe to browse the web when infected by a virus (or something like that) locked the Internet from being accessed. The laptops in question, or at least one of them, have since been cured, but it has been such a hassle to be blamed for what I percieve as an unprecedented incident that happened to occur twice in similiar circumstances; I am not a virus magnet for lightning to strike twice.
With my rant on how unjustly-treated I have been for the incidents done...what I seek is reccomendations of antiviruses protecting against malicious, surreptiously-installed software, programs, and suchlike; with the detail that they must be effective and free (since it is unlikely I can convince my parents to pay for it). Miravistel reccomends Panda Cloud Antivirus; if this is suitable I could have this installed and finish my seeking. Similarly, I may be seeking reccomendations for security add-ons. (that can be installed on Internet Explorer; I am not sure if I would not upset my parents by installing Firefox)
