The CEO swiveled around in his chair to face Steve. He had recently changed his name to Johnathan Q. Johnathan for tax reasons. "Kid," he begun. "We're a big business. We can afford supercomputers and huge underground facilities of technological triumph. But that computer on my table is six years old. I'm thinking you don't use computers much, because the hard drive space isn't 20 gig-" he pointed at a small silver usb stick sticking out the side of the computer "That's the usb stick space. This things got 500 gig on each hard drive"

Saying Johnathan Q. Johnathan is an odd looking man is like saying Richard Dawkins is a bit of an athiest. He was built like a poorly constructed oil pump, all wiry and thin, lanky arms and legs, with a his body in the centre, resembling the central pipe from the pumps. The analogy also continued to work, because his hair looked like they'd finally struck oil, and the black mass on his head seemed to be spraying everywhere. He also seemed like he could collapse at any moment under the weight of his granite designer sunglasses, through which he could see nothing, but return a steely stone-cold glare, literally. In fact, he lived in a state of total sensory deprivation by choice - his ears were plugged by headphones blaring out the Watchmen soundtrack 24/7 (because), petals and fragrant dust seemed to spew out of his nose and his tongue was made of wood. How he ever knew anything was going on was anybody's guess. Lot's of people thought he was psychic. It was odd then, that he was only 23 and already senile. At first glance, he was at least wearing respectable business attire, until you realised that his suit and tie were painted onto his shirt, and he was wearing overalls.

Meditating in his state of sensory deprivation, he turned to where he thought Steve would be, and got it right. "Well Steve, I looked over your credentials, and they're very impressive. And I'm never impressed by anything. I remember when the moon landing happened, and I was so unimpressed I decided I would never be born. And now, I am living my dream of not being born as I speak. So I'm just putting in perspective just how impressed I was." He slammed his hand down on the desk. "I was so excited, I thought I should get a job for you right this second. You'll be going with one of my top reporters, Anette Price, to Ecruteak for an investigation into the Burnt Tower. Biggest story of the week. People been saying they saw something very strange in there, it's been playing in the back of their minds and making them wet their bed at night. One thing nobody could ever say against Johnathan, was that he was enthusiastic about his job and his paper. "Well? When do you want to start?"

"Slow down!" Johnathan exclaimed. "There's a few things first. You can't just go into scary abandoned collapsing towers alone. We've got some tools you can take with you." He picked up a box from underneath his oddly bright pink desk and pulled up a glittering box. Inside was a torch, 6 pokeballs, some berries, food, poffins, various items, and an 8-pack of bubblegum. Also some batteries. "Take this with you. You'll probably need it. Also, don't forget Anette, whom you forgot. She'll have my pokegear number." He was about to turn his intercom on, then thought better of it and just yelled at the top of his voice "ANNEEEEEEEEEEETTE".

"That's the journalist who'll be doing the writing for the story by the way. ANNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTE. HEY ANNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTE" There was a high-pitched "Ping!" as the elevator doors opened, and young, tall woman with black hair came walking in. From her neck to her legs she looked like an hourglass, her lips were and her skin were actually properly shiny, and it was to the point where it could even hurt your eyes. She was the perfect example of having helmet hair on purpose, as her fringe took up a quarter of her short face, and put the rest of her hair into a ponytail which came down to her toes, and looked less like hair and more like fabric. Her sunglasses rested atop her tiny nose, and she wearing earrings with mice on them, because she probably liked mice. She'd look like she was just an average woman working at the office in her navy blue suit, white business shirt, clipboard and short pleated skirt if it wasn't for the fact that she was wearing a beanie, sneakers and socks up to her knees with simpsons designs on them (Mr. Plow socks are the latest fashion).

"I was already on my way sir, you'd called me up ten minutes ago," She said.

"Steve, this is Anette Price. She'll be doing the writing for this story. Like you, she's a young talent we managed to pick up. She's only 16! Oh, you're also going to be sharing supplies, so you know... make sure you... uh... share the supplies." Johnathan looked sheepish for a moment. "I lost the other supplies, alright?"

Anette turned to Steve. "Hi," she said, hand outstretched.

Johnathan quickly interrupted "Anyway, if you're ready to go, I reccommend going now! It's already four 'o clock, ecruteaks about half an hour up, you don't want to be caught in the burned tower at night time!"

Annette shook Steve's hand in a tight-death-grip that she probably didn't notice. "Hi," she said. "Did he try that 'I HATE THE MOON LANDING' thing on you as well?"

"Well that's weird. He normally does that to everyone. Personally I think he's gone mad."

There was another PING as the elevator reached the floor.

"Well, that's our ride. Come on."

"Hold on, you don't know how to use this elevator. Let me show you," Annette said. She placed her palm on a green panel and said "Ecruteak City, Burned tower." There was a rumbling noise, then a bright flash. The elevator doors opened. Instead of sleek and white interiors of the Daily Zeppelin offices, there was a dirt road and some ruined rock formation with a broken picket fence around it. On top of the rock formation was - pretty obviously - the burnt tower. Red and blue smoke rose from what remained of the roof.

"Get your camera out," Annette said, "And just to be careful, some pokemon too." She pulled out a notepad and a tape recorder, looking at the tower expectantly.

"Nice camera," Annette said. "Oak must've paid your brother more money than I thought."

Annette fumbled around her suit pockets, and brought out a pokeball and a round disc like device. She released the pokemon silently. It was an Espeon. She started fiddling with the round thing she held. "This round thing I've got has a shedload of functions. One of them is a smoke detector. It's range is adjustable, so I can set it to pick up any smoke within 100 square meters of here. Thing is," she said, looking at the device with a frustrated expression "It's not going off. I had this serviced yesterday. Every problem fixed. So that can't be smoke coming out of the lack of roof up there,"

Annette turned to face Todd. "So if that's not smoke, then what is it?"

"Don't think so," she said, turning her attention back to the device. "Because this should even be able to pick up any sort of gas if I put it to the right setting... and nothing. Usually Koffing's gas is purple anyway."

She pressed a few buttons on the device and her skirt morphed into black slacks. "Either way, we're not going to find out standing here," she said.

"It's pretty hard to see in here," Annette said. "You should have some torches in that supply box. I can't really make anything out."

There was a noise like a boulder falling on an accordion. "That's not encouraging" Annette said.

"I don't think that was a magmar," Annette said. "It sounded more like... a person imitating a magmar."

There was a bright flash of light, then another noise, and what looked like an indeterminate shape speeding across the room in the air. Then there was another flash, and that magmar-like noise could be heard again.
