So your issues were that they didn't look like what they were? I got the impression that it was just "This guy HAS A RAY GUN and this guy CAUSES EARTHQUAKES so you should swap their stats". If you want to have a go at modifying the designs to more reflect the stats then that's cool, my point was that having a 'ray gun' (and as I've explained, it's more of a gun than a ray gun) or 'causing earthquakes' wasn't merit enough on its own to lock a creation into a single roletype.

EDIT: Tescilator only has "MASSIVE HOOVES" as you put it because of that one design. Never in any of the original concepts was that a necessary part. I think it looks great, but it's obviously causing a significant 'mind-lock' for some people. Here's what they had to do: Tesray has an electrical machine to fire deathrays. I gave it the expected typing of a machine (Electric) and a deathray (Light) and then gave it suitable deathray move, based on how the actual teleforce works (accelerate physical metal to high speeds). It has met all requirements, nowhere is there a necessity for it to be a Special Attacker. Tescilator uses a machine to create earthquakes. That is it. I gave it the expected typing for a machine (Electric) that creates earthquakes (Ground). And here's the shocker, I gave it the move Earthquake. It has met all requirements. Nowhere does it need to be a physical attacker. You can induce earthquakes by just shifting around in the plaent's mantle. You can induce earthquakes by sounds/vibrations. You can induce earthquakes by changing the gravitational pull. These could all be special. Earthquakes are not the sole domain of physical beasts, and it is small-minded to reject anything because of that. I even gave each of them quite reasonable stats for their 'expected' stats (and I say that with caution, since I don't think you should ever have locked expectations in a creative process) and moves that would allow them to explore that side, should they choose.

Thus I can only see your issue being that they don't look like they should have those stats, and that you're locked into the mentality of "his gimmick is a deathray so all his focus should be special" or "his gimmick is earthquakes so all his focus should be physical".

First of all, go and find one of my posts where I say that tescilator causes earthquakes by its sheer physical bulk as you say. I'll wait. Because TheNoob's suggestion to me, which I took into the family, was of Tesla's Oscillator. Which causes earthquakes and ground instability by constant vibrations at the resonant frequency, not by physically impacting the ground with high power.

And guess what? Physical does not in any way mean "from close range". The fact that you associate "indirect attacks" and "from far away" with Special speaks volumes about your mind set. Yes, I said he fires death beams. Because that was the simplest way to describe it at the point of conception, in what was essentially "HayguiseIhazanidea". And when it became an issue after the raising of FoW's physically bulky design and Tescilator's appearance, I clarified that the workings of the teleforce are in fact physical.

Avalanche. Barrage. Bonemerang. Bullet Seed. Egg Bomb. Fissure. Flame Wheel. Fling. Gunk Shot. Ice Shard. Icicle Spear. Metal Burst. Pay Day. Pin Missile. Razor Leaf. Rock Throw. Spike Cannon. And of course... Earthquake. What do they all have in common? They can all be used to attack from far away. They can all be used as indirect attacks. And they are all Physical moves. Thusly: "Tesray attacks from far away so he can't be a physical attacker" is an invalid argument. Same goes for "Tescilator attacks with earthquakes so he has to be a physical attacker" because I can point to Earth Power as a special attack based on ground disruption, just as Earthquake is a physical attack based on ground disruption. In fact, to go back to an earlier point, if we went with your recent comments that Snipers have to be special because they attack "FROM AFAR. Like, a long way afar. With indirect attack" then we would be forced to conclude that an Earthquake user should be a Special anyway. Why? Because Earthquake: does not make contact using the Pokemon's body, can be used to attack from far away (far enough away that close combat isn't an option anyway) and is an indirect attack.

Actually, the reason I never had issues with those giant hooves is because a resonant oscillator would probably have to make contact with what it wants to vibrate apart, so I assumed the big mechanical looking hooves were just oscillators on the feet. I never once assumed that the hooves were meant for actually smashing the ground into an earthquake with kicks or anything. But using Alex's awesome designs as a basis I may try my hand at slimming Tescilator down and bulking Tesray up to suit the stats.

Well, to pass on resonant frequencies the best way would be direct contact, and the only description I can find is of attaching a small box to the foundation of a building and causing the near-collapse of the building. Still, will brainstorm some different possible ideas, see what I come up with. If the Dex said something along the lines of "The oscillator boots it wears generate resonant frequencies to trigger large-scale earthquakes" then I assume people would get it, but let's see what other things I can come up with. I do love Alex's giant machine-boots though, and definitely have intention of trying to implement that in any further designs.

There is a clause called "does not contact". As in, does not touch the two pokemon bodies together. That is exactly what it is. So please tell me what throwing a rock does that is different to shooting a death ray on your body? I haven't lied, look to Bulbapedia. They are all Physical moves, yet none of them make contact. That means they are an indirect attack, just as you say anyone with Sniper would be using. The fact that you contrast that bullet Seed is different from something a Pokemon with Sniper might have is astounding.

BTW: Disruption means quite simply damaging alteration. Earth power is indeed ground disruption, working on the same principles as an earthquake. Mantle shifts, crust moves, earthquake occurs. It's just that in this occasion the earth splits enough for magma to erupt from it. The fact that you want to distinguish them separately is just ridiculous. Both move the ground. That's what an earthquake is. That's why volcanoes and earthquakes often occur together.

Also, EP, I am quoting directly from the rules. I suggest an idea to CW, it gets worked on, and by the way the rules read to me, I don't have to take on board all additional suggestions. Now the reason it says what it says on the Dex is pretty obvious to me. Other people contribute and make some of the suggestions, you can't claim them all as your ideas. That does not mean that you can't choose which of the suggestions get incorporated. To me that is exactly how the rule appears to read. I have no more or less power than I would in the Suggest a Pokemon thread, certainly. Don't bite at me for it, take it up with the people who set the rules. If I'm wrong, then fine, I'm wrong, but to me the rules clearly state that a) the OP suggests an idea, whether it be in Suggest a Pokemon or Community Works and b) that the person who suggests gets to take into consideration other people's contributions and does not necessarily have to follow them. That is exactly what the rules state.

I'm not budging on this. I've given plenty of reasons for why an earthquake-creating guy can be "special" and I have yet to see any refutation of it. You guys keep talking about the attack, but the thing is, I've already included the attack. He does not cause it by physical strength, but by hitting the correct resonant frequency. That's special. That's in no way physical.

Sniping may as well just mean "accurately attacking and from a distance", and the ability seems to emphasis that it's really just about accuracy in the Pokemon world. After all, a Pokemon with Sniper scores the extra damage on close up hits as well, so it's laughable that the ability is being used as an excuse for it to be special. Sniper affects any attack regardless of its type. So by how the Sniper ability works, I can definitely snipe with Rock Throw, Bullet Seed, and Gunk Shot. I just hit in places that maximize the damage.

Or maybe we should just follow the rules in which the OP is able to reject contributions that are disliked? I assumed there would be a common courtesy of respect for the original creator's intentions, as this is how I would operate in any creative process. From what I have seen of other threads if an OP particularly objects to an idea then it gets dropped as a courtesy. If I vehemently disagreed with ideas any other person posted, I would express them and if they are reluctant to go down that path, I would drop it. It's just simple common courtesy. I apologise if I have this warped opinion that the creator actually gets a bit of a say in what his idea ends up as. Just that if I suggested a flaming penguin and it ended up being agreed that a regular penguin was better then what benefit has the original author received from it? Nothing whatsoever.

Alex, first of all, I never had locked expectation. I was originally going to go special, as per convention, then FoW suggested something different, I liked it, I took it on board. I've given the exact reasons why it might be fun to do something different. I've given reasons why I think they should be Physical and Special in that particular way. Additionally, if I make Tesray into a Special Attacker, I end up with... Ampharos. And thusly there ends up being no point to creating the new pokemon anyway, as it becomes too similar to the old one.

Also, EP, I'm sorry. Since it was backing up a point Flarsable had raised against me, I assumed it had enmity to it, on the back of reading other posts against it.

I assumed the forum was about having fun in creating a pokemon that you have envisioned, but not quite solidified. Turns out I was wrong, because I'm not having fun at all.
