Although I truly love this idea, approving faster simply gives the Staff more work to do. Taking their time with approving suggestions allows them to do just a few things at a time, instead of, say, five or six entire suggestions at once. There's a reason there are so many people on the same things. Simply put: it's not easy. Creating an official-style sprite, the amount of coding it takes for each dex, thinking of all the TM, HM, and MT moves, the list can go on and on. Aside from all of my negativeness, you can look at this in a much more positive manner. I often think of these forums as a school, where people learn from each other, suggest to each other, and even make mistakes and learn from them. The Staff is, quite obviously, the "school board". This team could sort of be thought of as the "student council" or the group of students elected by the rest of the body to overlook the important things here. This is not an easy decision to make, as there are many negative and positive things to consider. All in all, I think the "board" gets to decide.

I support this idea. Also, Drufle, it gives them no more work to do - they can take as much time as they want, and just getting your suggestion approved makes some people feel a lot better.

Although my impatient tendencies make me like the idea of anything that will make the process faster without reducing quality, I cannot take an opinion or point in this matter until an actual Staff member, such as the respected ShinE, makes their "school board"-esque decision on this idea. In any case, I would like to help this community in the ways that I can.

I am under the impression ShinE will explain precisely how this would not work when he makes his decision known, and soon after close the board; but we can always say it was a nice idea on paper.

@Drufle: You bring up a great point. I feel that it may get out of hand with the number of backed up suggestions. I don't know how much time it actually takes to review a suggestion, but I think it may be enough time that it would make the dex work go significantly faster. Its also possible that people will have 4 suggestions approved and none of them up, and there will be a huge backlog of suggested things that need to be worked on before B/W. For now I will say that we won't know until we try, and this can always be stopped.

@Coolsteph: Yeah, we have to wait for the opinions of the staff before going anywhere with this.

I'm on til the end of time, and I have the eye of the scrutinist. I'll be a reviewer and help you. Is so support the idea. I also don't like how many Pokes are made by staff. Just look at the RSE dexes. Almost all staff creations up until the end. I'll support this cause.

The staff would choose the reviewers, so just volunteering won't guarantee you a spot, but thanks for your support.

TheNoob, you need to be more well-versed in PF lore. PF didn't have very many members back in RSE, and indeed many of those who were suggesting were staff who weren't staff yet. Go look back at the suggestions archives - so many ideas were not even worth reviewing. Then we had the huge backlog which also prevented the approval of many ideas, and the May Hack, which lost a lot of those already made by non-Staff. In this generation, that is no longer an issue.
@Coolsteph: Wait, you're saying you can't have an opinion till the Staff have one, and then yours will match theirs? Have an opinion, and change it if it must be changed.

If I could, I would join/apply.

And the thing is, making a team to review it WON'T overcrowd the higher ups, it may give them a larger amount of pokes to look at, true, but if there wasn't a team they'd actually have to MORE of the work, as they themselves would do the main review.

And anyway, just because the idea is approved wouldn't make them need to work on it ny faster. The only bad point I can see is that people would suggest ideas very quickly, and we might have to see more strict suggestion rules to counter that.

Even though I wasn't here at that time, I believe that's exactly what happened with the two year switch. A giant backlog like that.
I personally don't know what's up with the wait. Yes, the Staff have lives other than this. Yes, they have plenty of work to do even here. However, most of the Staff are hired as a sprite-maker or CG Artist. Do we have any Staff that work just on coding? Or is ShinE all alone in coding the pages and hosting the Random Contest and updated the Nat'l Dex & SuperDex and more? I think he is. I think, instead of making a Review Staff Team, we make a Coding Staff team. It would take a crapload of work off of ShinE, and most likely speed up suggestions.

@elementalpenguin: I really do not like it when I say "Yes" to a potential idea, but the Staff, of which I respect the judgment of, then negate the topic's idea and close the topic. It makes me feel like I have been wrong, and even if it is illogical, I dislike feeling like I have been wrong. That, and the fact that if I do anything too...hasty, one of the Staff might...give me a to-the-point explanation of why I should not do it again. Although I am glad they do it so civilly, I feel like I have been scolded, and when I am scolded, I tend not to withdraw but become irritated at them, and to hold a grudge against Staff members will not help anyone.

Which means, I do not aim for my opinions to always be the same as the Staff's, merely that I do not make too many mistakes. As much as I like whatever idea will facilitate the process....to openly admit I am for it is to be involved in it, and I do not want to be caught in the net alongside the other birds, to reference an Aesop fable.

DeckuZora's personality means he can lose self-confidence; mine is that I dislike disagreement and clash of powered opinions. Although, my apparent sitting-on-the-fence stance might bother you....

No, I am quite sorry actually - I realize I may have just triggered that response of irritation by being so rude myself and not at all "civil" as you have pointed out the staff are. For that, I apologize. Now that you have explained why you abstain from a definite side, I understand. I can say I understand the thought process behind it entirely - I used to break down and cry whenever my parents had an argument with me about their divorce, but now I have become accustomed to it and mature enough to have confidence in myself. I am not implying you are immature - I'm sorry for the bad choice of words, but no other leaps to my mind. Indeed, you are one of the most mature members on the site. I apologize for my callousness - it doesn't bother me at all that you haven't taken a side.

Ah, Flarsy, your ninja edit almost escaped my grasp. First of all, that has nothing to do with what we're talking about, which is that the three or so topics being reviewed often take a very long time to get completed, and if even one is held up, all the rest are. Secondly, Pory does most of the coding I believe, and I don't think it's an issue. Even if it were, there are three active members I know of who know basic HTML, myself included.

So can I, but there's a big difference between making a few lines of HTML and a long string of Javascript code. For an example, just take a glance at the source code for DS001 - 025. As for the idea that this topic was originally about, I think that it has the potential to work... if the Staff and the community as a whole would be willing to be committed to it, especially those that would be asked, selected by lottery, or have volunteered to review the ideas. That and the Staff would have to approve of it first.

Just a side note: Currently, me, Antarctros and ShinE code the Archive Pages. Pory and Decku help out with other pages. Antarctros did the Placings List and I do the National Dex; Antarctros and I together do the SuperDex, with help from Squirrelay.

Anyways, and this is something very important: approving suggestions is going slow indeed. However, this is not because we don't have the time. Approving stuff goes pretty fast in The Lab. The entire Staff helps out there as a team. If we'd want to, we could've approved up to #DS200 or so by now.

However! We are approving as slow as we're doing with a reason: we're trying to prevent a backlog from arising. With Black and White nearing, there is absolutely no sense in approving 200 DS pokémon right now. What if we finish 100 dexes by the time Black and White are out? Then we still need to finish 100 more dexes in the DS style, which will then be outdated.

So, what we're currently doing is approving slowly, so that we can at least somewhat keep up with dexing approved suggestions. Suggestions lingering on the board can then be simply updated to Black and White format when those games come out, instead of being part of a huge DS-style backlog. To us, that seems the way to go.

So, I'm sorry, but we don't need a "Suggestions Team". I appreciate you all trying to help out, though, but I hope you now understand why approvals are going slowly ^-^ (and I think we should've made a notice about this earlier...)

I assume you carried your GBA styled dexes long into Generation IV's time. If we have 100-150 dexes by B&W's release, so what? We will still carry out our plans to make a DS-style archive about as big as the RSE Archives! Don't do another switch just yet!

No, this is a much better idea - the switch would actually take very little time this time, only a couple of months. The reason the switch did take so long last time is exactly because of the backlog ShinE refers to. :P

Indeed ^-^ We want a new switch to take us as short as possible. The enormous backlog of RSE dexes caused the previous one to take us as long as it did. We never want to go through such a headache-provoking period again.
