Yeah, grubs definitely have legs. I think this is a very awesome idea, and I think that leg flaps is definitely the way to go. Skydiving grub is certainly more inventive than my half-formed idea for Witchygrubs :P

here's the sketch I promised... colored to my thoughts. Feel free to change around the colors however you like, not use and or modify this design:

If anything at all, I would say that the neck should be shorter as the head of real grubs are right in front of it's legs.

(yes I'm critiquing my own artwork as I'm posting it... As TheNoob said at the bottom of page 3, "It's community works, it can get weird")

As I explained earlier, it spreads its legs horizontally and uses the flaps of skin between it's legs like a flying squirrel would. The blue part in that picture does not directly connect to the orange underbelly, it actually folds around what is currently visible and connects at about half it's leg height. as demonstrated in this text below:

Front View:

Standing: | |\ /| | | | \____/ | | | | | leg belly leg

Gliding: ----- ------ ___ ___ | \ / | | \____/ | | | | leg belly leg

As for how the patches of skin would work just take a look at this and imagine it on a smaller scale:

Really sorry for the double post but, I have made the sketch:

This would be looking at it from below while it is gliding. Notice the fact that the legs are pointed to the side instead of towards you (which would be down from it's perspective)

As for everyone else don't go too far on this without any pop from the creator, so we don't have a repeat of the MJB whack. I can agree with the name Grudive (wait, didn't I make that name?). As for the sketch, it's great, but reverse the blue & orange. And, if you don't mind, try making the orange a little more brown? It should also have something that looks like aviator goggles on it's eyes. Now, I have observed them more and I found something very exciting! I noticed a plane-like moth carrying these guys around back up the trees they jumped out of, and it also picked some up and they jumped right off of it. It has similar coloring to them, so I'm sure it was an evolution. On a side note, I think the reason they jump out of trees like that is purely for the excitement, adventure, and fun of it. They don't really appear to use their jumping skills to get anywhere.

Funny You should mention switching the colors, as I was in the middle of making my first attempt at Sugimori style artwork. It's a redrawing of the this design only with a brown and yellow back with a blue belly.

These Grudives, out of interest is it purely gliding or do they attach safety strings/bungee cords before leaping from the trees? Bungee jumping is really very exciting, I have found. May be a reason for Grudive to learn String Shot potentially, or just flavour.
