Touché. (Did I spell that right? :P) We won't have any problems about it then.
I'm okay with that now, but I think we should still minimize the reference to tapirs, this could just be any animal with a seemingly big nose that happens to look like a tapir. I expect any Gen I loyalists here to love things that aren't based on any particular animal.

Erm, I got mine around level thirty, forgot what moves it had, but it evolved a little bit past level thirty....or was it forty?

It turned into something much bigger, nearly three times it's size. It had a giant nose thing, which extended a fair bit away from it's head, and it split into two at the ends. It curled a little too, putting it nearly perpendicular to the ground at the end. I'm sure I saw it poking things with it... It's front legs grew a lot bigger, presumably to support the weight, and all of it's feet got pretty wide.

Does that seem right to you?

@greekfreek: (That's useful, thanks! But technically it shouldn't have Pokedex data yet, since we're the "scientists" "studying" it who will presumabley write the Pokedex data :P Still, very useful )

@NARFNra: Thanks for your work, the Lab's Taperia evolved too, at level 38 to be precise. The guys at the lab are calling it Pachyslyme (PACHYderm + SLIME) The Lab sketch artist came up with this:

Do you think he captured it's appearance okay, or should we get a proffessional artisan in to give a shot?

@SoR: Feel free to take some of his slime and brush your teeth with it if you like! We'd love to know how that goes.

Phanpy? Why not Drowzee? Drowzee is an actual tapir, after all. Its type could be Psychic/Poison, but if it evolves from an existing pokemon we should probably avoid level-based evolutions.

No, no, you're quite mistaken, let me explain. :P It doesn't evolve from Phanpy or Drowzee or Bactrun or anything else, it's two seperate brand new pokemon. But it's related to Phanpy in the same way that, say, a Pikachu is related to Minun, or in real life, a mouse is related to a rat.

I managed to get my hands on one (not literally), and it seems that the slime and the Pokemon underneath it have some kind of symbiotic relationship: the slime protects the Pokemon from predators, while the Pokemon provides the slime with a means of transportation and allows the slime to feed on any leftover food.

Yeah I know ZF, but I don't think we're going with that suggestion, either with Drowzee or Phanpy. It's not a bad suggestion, but still.

Um, actually, the nose looked more like the original then the one in the picture does. All curvy and stuff. The eyes and mouth are a bit... creepy in that picture. They looked actually kind of cute on mine...

How about these for dexes?

Tapiria:
It keeps bacteria on its skin to protect itself. In return, it gives the bacteria leftover food. (99)
The thin layer of slime on its skin is actually a type of bacteria that is related to Bactrun. (98)

Pachyslime:
It has formed a stronger bond with the bacteria, now protecting and giving it more food. (99)
The bacteria is now nearly inseperable from its skin. They only move when nessecary. (97)

Are those good?

I liked your original drawing much better. The first drawing you made is on-par with Sugimori's best in my opinion.

I heard the evolution called something else around the rumor mill. Now, let me see, what was it? Viruderm (VIRUs + pachyDERM) or maybe Ungross (UNGulate + GROSS), um.. it could've been Bactapir (BACTeria + TAPIR) or something else....

I also heard about a possible split evolution because of different bacteria that turns into a more rhinoceros-like PKMN (rhinos are actually closer relatives to tapirs), I think it was called Rhinooze or something to that effect.

I don't se asplit evo here. I like the Viruderm, and I think it may evolve from our un-named first form when affected with PokeRus, like Polinomial

@the noob: Are you sure we're on the same page here? There's two pokemon involved here, Taperia and it's evolution. Are you saying you liked Taperia's sprite better, or the original sprite of it's evolution better?

@rahjet: We'll have to get people's opinions on which name they like best, then. I'm not sure about the Rhinooze though, I suppose it's possible?

@flars: Nice idea, but I think we'll just stick with the level evo. Pokerus is a bit rare :P Also, the first form is currently named Taperia.

@AlexFantastico Sorry, I thought that those two creatures were one and the same. Actually, the second creature appears to be a pre-evo, due to its simpler design, and the fact that the other creature (first) looks bigger.

@TheNoob: Yeah, quite right, I sort of made the pre-evo seem a too large! Just to clarify, it's not that big :P Think Phanpy size, only a teensy bit larger. Also, thanks for your compliment in comparing it to Sugimori's ^^ I certainly wouldn't say so, but I would never turn down a compliment
