Professor Yew put the last piece of tape on his "Help Needed" sign on his outside window, and stepped back to admire his work. He knew that he was probably one of the only people around that could give Pokemon to children, and as such he was the only one who could ask people to help with the evil force taking over Futei. He shook his head and walked back inside, waiting for people to enter the brick-and-glass laboratory.

Brian panted as he sprinted down the road, running toward the lab. Panting and puffing, he reached the door and walked in. "H-Hello? I... *gasp* heard someone was trying to reconnect the islands?"

"Why yes, I am. Are you alright?" Brian nodded, so Professor Yew continued. "You are correct. I'm giving out Pokemon so that we can figure out what's going on here." He smiled, and motioned to a table to his left. "Here I have twelve Pokeballs, each with a common starter Pokemon. Or," he said, motioning then to the table to his right, "You can choose a different Pokemon. Despite the recent events, I just got a shipment from Mizumi, so right now all of these random ones are part Water." He grinned. "So, what'll it be?"

"I'll take one of those, thanks. Anything will do, but I do like Water types. I'm from Mizumi, actually..." Brian's voice trailed off a bit before he changed the subject. "I guess I'll pick... this one!"

Brian threw the Pokeball into the air, and out of it came a small, round, green spherical Pokemon with a yellow belly. It had a metallic-blue tail that seemed to flow right out of the Pokemon, and the figure stood up on the tail. "Tempole!" Professor Yew looked down at the little tadpole Pokemon. "Wow, you got a good one here, Brian. The Professor up in Mizumi told me they had run out of Tempoles, but I guess she found a few." He smiled at the new Trainer. "You make sure to take care of it, now."

"Wow, cool! Never seen one of those before!" Brian played around with Tempole for a bit before returning it to its pokeball. "Anything else before I go?"

"Not really. Oh, I forgot something." Professor Yew walked to the back of the lab, rustled through a box on the back table, then walked back and handed Brian a small white device. "It's a Pokedex. I'm sure you've heard of them before. Right now, this one is white, but you can change the color in the menu. And take these, too." The Professor took three white-and-red balls and gave them to Brian. "Pokeballs. You'll definitely be wanting a few of these. Now am I forgetting anything else? Ah, yes. From what I know of this force, its main power is controlling the weak. By defeating strong trainers and gaining power, you'll be able to overcome the force's gates, and eventually, the force itself. I've heard rumors of a powerful trainer up in Oshi Town who trains solely with Rock Pokemon. You shouldn't have any trouble with her, considering the Pokemon you have. But be careful. The roads from here to Kadon City are full of Grass-type Pokemon who can easily defeat your Tempole." Professor Yew looked at the ceiling for a moment, thinking. "Well, that's it. Do your best, Brian!"

Brian thanked the professor and quickly headed out onto the road, Tempole hopping along happily at his side. He quickly realized that the professor was right- the route was swarming with Tumbella! Tempole wouldn't stand a chance against one of those... I need a Flying-type or something that can handle Grass. Looking around, he spotted a Starly sitting quietly in a tree a little ways off. "Aha! A Starly would be perfect!" There was just one little snag... the Starly's tree was across the road, right on the opposite side of the Tumbella swarm! How will I get over there without bothering the Tumbella... he thought. "Tempole! Can you launch a Bubble at that tree? See if you can get Starly's attention without bothering the Tumbella!" Tempole nodded and blew a Bubble right through the air, over the Tumbella, hitting Starly smack in the head! "Quick! Let's move!" As Starly quickly flew towards them, annoyed, Brian and Tempole dashed back up the road, so as not to bother the Tumbella with their battle. ((Cue battle music)) Starly flew at Tempole, pummeling it with a Tackle. "Tempole, Gust it!" Tempole spun around quickly, creating a small tornado that blew Starly through the air, smacking it hard into a tree. "Wow, I forgot that Wind is good against birds... better not use Gust again or it might faint." Starly got up and shook itself, before letting out a loud Growl. Tempole cringed for a moment, before retaliating with a Bubble that Starly dodged easily. The attack still had an effect, though- Starly stopped screeching and Tempole was ready to fight again. "Now, Tempole- Tackle it!" Tempole used its tail like a springboard, and flew into Starly with a thud. Starly was down for the count. "Now, the pokeball!" Starly flew into the pokeball with a flash. 1....2....3....*click* "Yes! We caught Starly!" Tempole happily struck a victory pose, before falling flat on its face. "Um, nice try, buddy." "Tempole..."
