No, they shouldn't. That's the only similarity. I don't see how a pile of moss cna shoot a huge beam of water.

You choose to assume that those rotting, moss-covered logs are in any way similar to cannons. I don't think they are, beyond a coincidence of shape.

But if it carries two large albeit hollow logs on its shoulders like that, it is bound to have another purpose other than for display. If it isn't, it's just dead weight.

Perhaps it launches spore blasts or slime projectiles through the hollow logs? Or perhaps the insides of the logs act as reservoirs of bacteria (in a similar manner to the possible function of the human appendix).

So if it does act like a human appendix, shouldn't they eventually die if you stabbed one in the log?

I agree that they should at least get Flash Cannon by TM.

Mosstrous cannot learn Flash Cannon. Please keep in mind the concept behind the move: it is a metallic flash, not pure light energy. There's a pretty good reason pokémon like Ampharos or Lanturn cannot learn it by TM. There is nothing metal about Mosstrous, so it cannot learn Flash Cannon.

It uses its branches for Branch Blow, but I do picture it launching Sludge Bomb or Solarbeam from its branches.

Yeah, it does. Its body is mossy and flexible as a result, so it can bend itself in various ways in order to hit its opponents with its branches.

I was having quite some fun imagining just that.

Not all that learns flash cannon from TM is metallic or is related to metallic pokemon.

Camerupt has the giant volcanoes on its back that it can shoot out of, Rhyperior has holes in his hands to shoot out of, and Deoxys is an alien, for crying out loud. He can do whatever he wants to do. I have no explanation for Starmie or Armaldo, however.
