Lumineon was the last Pokemon I needed to see to get the National Dex in Pearl. I think it's pretty obscure.

They aren´t, but to tell the truth, Lumineon was the final pokémon that I needed to complete the National Dex. And I made it a part of my team.

Pokémon Factory Worker

I recall an encounter with a wild pokemon and my reaction like "WTF is this thing?". Even though I have almost memorized all pokemon up until Generation III, that caught me as a total surprise, perhaps because it was rare. The specific game, and the pokemon were long forgotten. Maybe it was Latios/Latias...or maybe Kecleon.

The weird thing is, lots of "novelty" Pokémon aren't forgotten.
Chatot was a main character in PMD2, Farfetch'd has its own item, Ditto just can't possibly be forgotten, and Keckleon had an entire cutscene just about trying to see it. Spinda had a major part in PMD1 AND PMD2: Sky.

No one has yet mentioned Luvdisc? The only reason anyone remembers them is because of those ubiquitous and annoying to find Heart Scales - but the pokemon itself has to be the worst idea ever jumped to a designer's head. Same stuff as Finneon & Lumineon, except Luvdisc has even less originality for it. The move it's know for... you knew it, Attract - is a tm that any pokemon with a friggen GENDER can take.

To quoth Pokemon of the Day Chick over at IGN ages ago, in the R/S/E era:

I have seen DOUBLY-unevolved Pokemon with better stats than Luvdisc; I kid you not. Of course, you people should realize by now that stats certainly aren't everything in my book...would that its stats were Luvdisc's only problem! Its lack of versatility is ridiculous even for a Water type...which brings up another point. Why, oh WHY did they make Luvdisc a Water type, a type that has SO many awesome representatives? If he was something incredible like, say, a Bug/Electric type or a Steel/Dragon type, we would be saying "Who CARES if the thing sucks; it's an awesome type and super-mondo-mega original! There is only one, and it MUST BE MINE!!". But no, we get yet another Water type, the single most prolific type in the game. Blah

Luvdisc is notoriously bad. Everyone remembers Luvdisc, because of how monstrously bad it is. The sad thing about the -eons is that
their stats are JUST good enough to not be completely and utterly pathetic but still horribly bad.

Luvdisc is probably one of the worst Pokemon there are. I'm glad our evolution for it is actually interesting. For the people who read PokemonX, there's a certain comic that talks about Luvdisc. It's May's birthday, and Brendan says she's just like a Luvdisc. She asks him why he thinks that, and he says it's because she's slimy, smells like fish, and is worthless in battle.

Meh, I had the idea for a Water/Dark psychotic evil death killer Luvdisc evo a while ago with 125 base speed and no base stat under 70 the other day, just for the shock value :P

I remember in Ruby I caught Luvdisc for their Heart Scales, which may be a use for them.
