Lucas ran through Anchore Town, past the ports, toward the lab. Today is the day he got his first pokemon from Prof. Aaron. The sea breeze was cool and crisp in the morning air. Soon, he thought, soon. Eventually, Lucas reached the lab. Inside, he saw a blonde haired man in a white labcoat. "Hello, Prof. Aaron," Lucas said cheerfully, "I'm here to recieve my first pokemon."

(OOC: Ah, sorry. It seems I missed your post somehow.)

Aaron replied, "Actually, I'm not a professor...yet," he added with a smile. "I'm still studying to be a pokemon professor, and until them I'm Prof. Idaho's aide."

"But in any case, I'm sure getting your pokemon is of more interest to you," he said as he walked over to a set of tables that had several groups of pokeballs on them, which were marked with elemental symbols to indicate their contents. "Do you need to know what pokemon we have, or do you already have a choice in mind?"

"Alright," Aaron said. He pointed to a group of pokeballs that were set slightly apart from the rest and said, "Pick any one of these, then let it out so we can see what you got!"

"Okay", said Lucas, restraining himself from shouting with delight. He picked up a pokeball and said, "Come on out!". There was a flash of white light and there stood/sat/floated/many other movements a ..........

Pokémon Factory Worker

The flash of white light danced and formed in what looked like a small tree with legs. The light faded to reveal a Bonsly. It blinked a few times before looking around and finally to Lucas. It gave a fervent cry of joy at meeting its new trainer.

The rock tree reminded Lucas of the bonsai he had put in his backyard at home. "Hey, Bonsly," Lucas said excitedly, "I think I'll call you Kiosk.". Kiosk looked around as Lucas talked to him/her. Remarkable how much Bonsly look like real trees, Lucas reflected. "If I'm not mistaken, shouldn't Kiosk have the moves Copycat and Fake Tears?", Lucas asked.

"You can check what it knows by returning it to its pokeball and placing it on that scanner," Aaron said. He pointed to a machine in one corner that had a screen on its front and a slot for a pokeball.

"Okay" Lucas said. He returned Kiosk to it's pokeball and placed it in the slot on the machine. The screen lit up and displayed Kiosk's information.

The machine hummed for a bit before displaying the pokemon's information:

Copies foe's last move.

Flail [Nrm]

Inflicts more damage when the user's HP is down.

"Now, come right this way and I'll show you what we need to do next," Aaron said. He lead Lucas through a door at the back of the lab, which opened to a room with no ceiling and a living carpet of grass for a floor. In the grass grew rows of small white flowers, which marked out the lines for a pokemon battlefield. "Your last task here is your first Gym Battle, against me! Ready?"

Lucas was startled by the sudden command to battle, but he recovered quickly. "Kiosk!", he shouted, "Come on out!". He threw the small pokeball and wathced the tree-like shape appear on the field. "You first," Lucas said calmly to Aaron.

Aaron nodded and tossed out his own pokeball. "Let's go, Nevermore!" he called. His pokemon materialized on a field; a small, dark-colored bird with a long beak.

"Nevermore, start off with a Growl," Aaron commanded.

His pokemon squawked and took a deep breath before growling loudly at its opponent.

Kiosk flinched as the small bird growled fiercely. Lucas knew that Kiosk wanted to run, espically sense it was just a baby pokemon. He thought that Nevermore, although being part Dark-type, would be easy to fool. "Fake Tears, Kiosk!" Lucas shouted across the grass towards his Bonsly. He watched it start bawling, almost believing its pain to be real. He waited for the move to take effect.

Nevermore was surprised when Kiosk started to cry, and then looked rather uncomfortable.

"It's alright, Nevermore, it's bluffing. Tackle now," Aaron called.

His pokemon seemed rather reluctant, but rushed towards Kiosk anyway.

"Copycat, Kiosk!" Lucas shouted to the small pokemon before the attack could hit. Kiosk's top ball of green rock started to glow, and he charged towards the dark bird. It was basically a game of Chicken against a bird. How ironic, Lucas thought. They collided, causing each other to sprawl across the grass. They had hit each other head on.

Nevermore stumbled around unsteadily, looking rather dizzy from the head-on collision.

"Hold it back while you recover, Nevermore. Another Growl," instructed Aaron.

Nevermore shook its head briskly in an attempt to regain its senses before growling at Kiosk, though not quite as loud as before.

Kiosk was dazed from head-on collison like Nevermore. The Bonsly shuddered from the Growl. "Use Copycat, Kiosk!" The imitation leaves on Kiosk's head glowed and Kiosk Growled back at the small bird.

Nevermore flinched from the loud sound that had practically echoed back at it.

Aaron was slightly amused by the Copycatting. He found it interesting to see a pokemon use moves it normally wouldn't know. "Let's see how it handles a Peck!" he called.

His pokemon wasted no time in rushing towards Kiosk to jab at the little pokemon with its beak.

"Kiosk, stand your ground!" Lucas shouted at the small pokemon. He saw the rock tree flinch from the idea of waiting to get hit, but it stood still. Nevermore slammed into Kiosk with it's beak, hurting the pokemon. It flinched again, but still stood. "Come on, Aaron, go ahead and attack!" Lucas taunted at the professor's assistant.

Aaron smiled at the taunt. It seemed Lucas already was figuring out how to make the most of his pokemon's moves, since he guessed the young trainer was waiting for his pokemon's health to lower so Flail would be more effective.

"Well, if you'll let us get a free move...Growl again, Nevermore!" Aaron said.

His pokemon would prefer to press its advantage when its foe was just standing there, but it reluctantly growled instead.
