I'm also rather amused that the description of the fossil for the new archaeopteryx pokemon calls it the ancestor of all bird pokemon (just like the real archaeopteryx is considered the first true bird). Real-life evolution in pokemon!

Palmince, (Palm leaf + prince) Skionny (Skink, a snakelike lizard with shortened legs + scion) Leafzard (leaf + lizard....I hope not.) Sleafard (Slither, leaf, lizard) Serpalm (serpent + palm leaf) Serslithe (serpent + slither + 'sir') Xylizard (Xylem + lizard) Folizard (Foliage + lizard) Skinkale (Skink + Kale....er, running out of creative juices)

Mijumaru:
Otterol (Otter + roll, referring to its round body) Aquatter (Aqua + otter) Squiret (Squire + ferret...a stretch) Cubble (cub + bubble) Lutyke (Lutrinae, the otter family + tyke, popular for names now) Samurill/Samurain (Samurai + rill, a brook, or rain)

Pokabu:
Porchar (Pork + char)
Blayswine (Blaze + swine)
Pyropig (if Grumpig can have 'pig' outright in it, why not?)
Baswine (bacon/baby + swine)

What are Oshawott & Tepig's names derived from? Tepig obviously has pig, and Oshawott has otter in it, but what about the rest?

Tepig equals Tepid, moderately warm (or lukewarm, but that probably does not apply as much) plus pig. Although it does not have a nice portmanteau ring, being unsatisfying to say, I still must remark that it is clever.
Oshawott probably derives from Otter + Water, and is convoluted because the words sound so similar.
Snivy, snake (and possibly snide) plus ivy.
