I don't mean using a whole other color to anti-alias, just the darker shade of gray you already have there.

More shading on the worm, please. Do circular shading on the top of the humps.
Try getting the colors from another Pokémon. Custom coloring is hard.

JDL's right. Also, in my experience, it's not that custom coloring is hard, it's that it usually doesn't look as good. Does Spectreeze have any shade color at all? Also, a great rule of thumb if you do do custom coloring is never be afraid to go with too much contrast - it often looks good, and you can always change back.

Spectreeze does have shading, but if it were any lighter, it would be white, and I don't want that.

And sorry, I don't get the comic. Is it serious, because if it is funny there is no punchline to me.
Second, why aren't you capitalizing the text? A Pokémon battle mockup should be just like one, saying "Wild CANNECK appeared!" and "Go BEN!"
I noticed that although the health bar decreases, the number below it doesn't change. It's the details that matter!
And... the comic Bit-mixes. Nonono... bit-mixing is a no-no.
By the way, how many comics do you make, Plokman? I need to give you (and all the rest of them) some pointers. There's NO excuse for MS-Paint smoke effects!

The problem is, your sprites look (to me) like GSC sprites. Remember, HGSS sprites often use slightly-lighter highlights, and not very-light ones. Cross-hatching is also unnecessary. The feet should be all black.

Thing is, I can't get the tentacles looking right, and when I try to anti-alias around the head, the result looks disgusting. What should I do?

Your transitions are too abrupt color-wise - also, there's a line of darker pixels in between the main highlight and the base shade - get rid of that. I love the tentacles. actually.
