Aww, you beat me to the stalagtite/stalagmite monster pokemon! I created something like this a while back and was considering submitting them. They sort of followed the way the bagon line or the larvitar line worked. What i mean is, the first was a smallish little stalagmite with 4 stumpy legs called Stalite, the second was a sort of hibernation/pupation stage, where it hung from the ceiling until it was ready to evolve, sort of like your lowest evo, called Stalatight (I think), and finally it split off into either a rock-steel pokemon called Stalamight, which I happen to have a small clay sculpture of, or basically a rock-flying stalagtite monster that hung from the ceiling in wait for its prey, which i dubbed Stalafright. Shameless self-advertising aside, however, I agree with ShinE's earlier post: a monster disguised as a cave formation...the idea...wait for it...ROCKS!

Sorry. I couldn't resist. Anyway, Miasma blow definitely works. In my honest opinion, the stalagtite pokemon should be the middle evo, but, hey, its not my pokemon. I really like the Rock-Dark direction you chose. I would probably faint if i ran into darkryst in a cave, or dark alley, or forest, or anywhere.
