Okay, since this seems to be an intense debate, let me say something as well: concept-wise, it makes sense for it to become a pure Rock-type. Although the type change is a bit drastic, if it were to keep the Fire-type, then that would contradict the idea itself. The evolution method might be a bit much, but I think you should keep it this way until this pokémon gets reviewed. Using the Metal Coat makes no sense at all. Also, a sketch really isn't necessary; we can work very well with a text description.

Having said all that, though: maybe this idea would meet less resistance from other members if you were to make this pokémon not related to Slugma, but instead give it a fiery pre-evo of its own? I know Zelda: Twilight Princess or The Wind Waker feature slugs that turned into stone. Could you do something with those? Then this would become something like counterparts to the Slugma line. I personally think this idea could benefit from not being related to Slugma. It's pretty original and very creative, so I'd say it deserves fiery pre-evo of its own.

Hm, yeah, if you're no longer making it related to Slugma, its appearance does need to be changed. The idea itself is good, though. Maybe when you think up the new pre-evo, you gain new inspiration for the evo's appearance as well
