Part 1: The Adventure Begins

Lloyd ran full speed to the Pokemon Lab, which, believe me, was fast. He busted right through the doors and past the desk, going so fast that he blew papers off a table he passed. "HIIIIIIIII!" he yelled to the professor's assistant, but realized how loud he was, and how many papers he knocked off the tables. "Sorry" he said picking up some papers and putting them back "I'm just a little more hyper then usual because I'm finally getting my own Pokemon!!!"

(OOC: Thank you, EP. Also Pollyana, bumping is actually counterproductive, since when I respond to posts I start at the bottom of the lists of threads with new posts, since otherwise it's very hard to tell which I've responded to last. Please be patient, and I'll do my best to respond to threads within a few days.)

Aaron looked at the excited young boy and smiled. "It's wonderful to see such enthusiasm about pokemon! But do try to be a bit more careful. This is a lab after all, and it'd be a shame if you knocked over something more important than a few papers." He walked over to the tables that held the groups of pokeballs with the starter pokemon and said, "Now then, do you know which pokemon you want, or do you need me to tell you more about our choices?"

"We actually have quite a few choices,"Aaron said as he walked over to a couple tables on which rested groups of pokeballs. "For Fire-types we have Comolten, Xoskillitn and Agunni," he continued, pointing to the appropriate group of pokeballs as he named their contents. "Our Grass-types are Youthistle, Holliguana and Nutreed. If you want a Water-type, we have Sukus, Ninemone and Cherippo. And finally, " he said as he pointed to one last group of pokeballs that were set slightly apart from the rest, "we have the choice to select a random pokeball. We won't know what's in those until they're opened. So," he concluded as he turned back towards Lloyd. Do you know which one you'd like?

"Hmm... Youthistle...Xoskillitin...Cherippo..." Lloyd thought "...Wait, is that a flying hippo? Wow that's wierd! I choose Cherippo!"

Aaron chuckled. "Yes, it is a funny sort of pokemon, isn't it? Well then, pick one of them and let it out so you can meet it," he said, again gesturing to the pokeballs containing Cherippo. "When you've gotten acquainted, you can find out more about it by returning it to its pokeball and placing it on that machine," he continued, pointing to a boxy machine in one corner with a screen and a slot for a pokeball on its front.

"OK!" Lloyd said "Go Cherippo!" A small blue hippo with tiny wings on its head. "Cheri-pi!" Cherippo cried "Aw, it's so cute!" Lloyd said. Cherippo smiled at the complement. "OK, Cherippo, return" Lloyd said. Then Lloyd went up to machine and placed in the Pokeball holding his new friend.

The machine hummed a moment before displaying some information:

Charges the foe with a full-body tackle.
Growl [Nrm]
Growls cutely to reduce the foe's ATTACK.

Aaron waited a moment to give Lloyd time to read the screen, Aaron said, "Now if you'll just follow me, I can show you your next task." He led Tad through a door at the back of the lab, which opened to a room with no ceiling. The floor was a living carpet of grass, and in if grew rows of white flowers that marked out the lines for a pokemon battlefield. "Your last task is your first Gym Battle! Ready?

"Alright, a gym battle!" Lloyd said "Go, Cherippo!" Cherippo reapeared from the Pokeball. "Ya know, Cherippo, I think you should have a nickname how about...Charles!" Cherippo nodded in approval. "OK, your move" Lloyd said.

(Edit: OK, fixed now. Sorry!)

Aaron nodded, then tossed out his own pokeball. "Here we go, Nevermore!" A dark-colored bird pokemon emerged and flapped its wings as it stared at its opponent.

"Nevermore, start with a Tackle," Aaron called.

His pokemon quickly dashed forward to deliver the attack.

"Charles, fly to get away!" Lloyd instructed. Charles flew, but only lifted one inch off the ground. Tackle hit him square in the chest. "OK, use a Tackle of your own!" Lloyd told Charles

Although he could not fly that high, Charles was more than capable of attacking. His Tackle hit Nevermore hard, tossing the bird backward.

"Flying sounds like a good idea. Fly up and give it a Peck," Aaron instructed.

His pokemon hopped to its feet, then flapped its wings sharply to rise into the air. Then it dove down beak-first to deliver the attack.

Charles's head was harder than Nevermore expected. As the hippo as he attacked, the bird crashed into it, then fluttered about dizzily for a moment.

Hoping to give his pokemon a moment to recover, Aaron said, "back up and give it a Growl."

His pokemon backwinged a bit, shook its head as if to clear it, then growled in the general direction of Charles.

Charles flinched with fear. This is looking bad thought Lloyd I'd try Growl too, but they say if you fight fire with fire, you just get burnt... "Ah, whatever" said Lloyd "Use Growl back, and louder!"

Nevermore was still a little dizzy from the blow to its head, and the growl wasn't helping matters. It had to land, and would have been clutching its head in its hands if it had any.

"Nevermore, think you can managed a Tackle?" Aaron called, looking concerned.

His pokemon nodded, then took a couple deep breaths before racing at Charles.

"Charles, dodge it!" instructed Lloyd. Charles jumped over the Tackle. However, he landed to soon and accidentally sat on Nevermore. "Um..." Lloyd said akwardly, when a Postork with a tie came in through the open roof. "Hello, I am the Talking Buisnessman Postork, I am here to ask you to sign this contract" the Postork said.

"Um, I'm kinda in the middle of something" said Lloyd

"I don't think you understand" said TBP "Signing this contract, you are leagilly entitled to a shiny Tilquail"

"What?"

"You heard me. a shiny Tilquail. It also will know the breeding move FeatherDance and special move Nose Dive"

"Awesome! I'll take it!"

"OK, just sign here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here"

"Yes! New Pokemon!"

"One more thing. You can't use it in the Gym Battle you're in"

"Oh well. It's still cool"

Aaron waited patiently while the transaction took place. "Yes, it wouldn't be fair to every other trainer who's faced me if you could use your new pokemon in this battle," he said. "But congratulations on getting it."

Meanwhile, Nevermore had been thoroughly squashed by Charles. It tried to squirm out form under the water-type, but failed and slumped limply. Aaron recalled his fainted pokemon, which disappeared from under Charles. Then Aaron tossed out another pokeball.

"Next up is Ledyba!" he said as a pokemon resembling a large ladybug appeared on the field. "Ledyba, Growl," he instructed.

His pokemon chirped to acknowledge the command, then growled loudly at its opponent.
