Cyrus Emerald Shadowclaw, otherwise just known as Cyrus, was sitting on the grass, reading a book. She was looking up the new starter Pokemon that the professor had found. Looking at them carefully, she decided on an awesome-looking Agunni, also due to its eventual ghost typing. For Cyrus loved ghosts and dragons. She put down her book, and rushed to the lab.

Aaron was setting up a new table to held the new starters when he heard the lab door open. He looked up to see a young girl enter. "Hello, there," he said as he set down the last of the pokeballs. "Are you hear to get your first pokemon?"

He gestures to a group of pokeballs on the new table. "They're right here. Go ahead and pick one, then let it out so you can meet it."

(Do we get to choose gender, and ability if there's more than one? And also, is it alright to use the sprites in our signature? I use a laptop and a netbook, and having to keep copying a .txt file would be hard.)

'Alright then...' Cyrus approached the table, and picked up the topmost Pokeball. 'Come on out, Agunni!' she called, throwing the ball.

'Agunni!'

Cyrus slowly walked forwards, so as not to startle it. She said 'Thanks a lot!' to Aaron.

((OOC: No the gender and the ability are decided for the starter by the staff. For all other pokemon caught on your adventure, you may choose what ability and gender they have. They is a topic in the Out-of-Character Discussion forum where you can keep track of what pokemon and things you have. It would be best if you didn't use the sprites separately, but it has been done before.))

It was little more than a box with a slot for a pokeball and a screen on its front.

"Now, next thing to do with your pokemon is a bit farther back in the lab. If you follow me, I'll show you," Aaron said. He led Cyrus through a door at the back of the lab, which opened to a room with no ceiling. It also had a carpet of living grass, in which grew rows of white flowers that marked out the lines for a pokemon battlefield. "Your first battle with be against me, your first Gym Leader!" Aaron announced. "Are you ready?"

Cyrus called out Agunni. 'I'll call you Isidar.' she said happily, then turned to Aaron. 'I'm ready!' she called. 'Agunni!' cheered the eager Isidar.

Aaron nodded. "Alright, let's go Nevermore!" He tossed his own pokeball onto the field, which released a small, dark-colored bird with a long beak. "Nevermore!" squawked his pokemon at it stared at its opponent.

"Start off with a Tackle," Aaron called.

His pokemon looked up at the floating Isidar, then jumped into the air and flapped its wings busily and it shot forward for an aerial attack.

Cyrus thought quickly. Tackle was Physical, so how to reduce its power? 'Isidar, use Growl!' she called. 'Aguuuu...' Isidar growled.

Nevermore flinched a little from the loud growl, and looked slightly subdued.

"Show him what you've got, Nevermore, Growl right back," Aaron encouraged.

Nevermore puffed itself up a little to make itself feel bigger, then growled loudly at Isidar.

(I had a question... I know normally people aren't allowed to control legendaries, but can Staff members control them to let someone see them, if they feel like it?)

Isidar looked unnerved, but carried on battling. Cyrus thought. 'Isidar, use Pound!' she called. Isidar jumped up, and dashed towards Nevermore.

The fire-type slammed into Nevermore, knocking the bird off its feet. It clambered back to its feet, but wasn't moving as quickly as it had earlier.

"You're doing fine Nevermore, go for a Peck now," said Aaron.

His pokemon took a moment more to be sure of its balance before dashing at Isidar with its beak outstretched.

'Isidar! Dodge! Then use Pound!' Cyrus called. Isidar leaped out of the way of the incoming beak, then, with a cry of 'Aaaa-gunni!' charged at Nevermore.

(OOC: Ah, I just realized Isidar's been using the wrong attack! It knows Pound, not Tackle. I'll just pretend it's been using the correct attack all along. :P )

Nevermore was thrown to the grown by the force of the attack, and when it stood up it was looking a bit shakier than before.

"Don't give up, Nevermore! Another Tackle!" Aaron called.

His pokemon ruffled its feathers to shake of some of the dirt and grass it had picked up, then charged at Isidar.

Nevermore tried to dodge out of the way but wasn't able to move fast enough, and was once more struck down by Isidar's attack. This time, however, it did not get up.

Aaron recalled his fainted pokemon, then tossed out his second pokeball. "Your turn Ledyba!" he said as the ladybug pokemon appeared. "Growl now."

His pokemon obediently let out a loud growl at its opponent.
