That was... a bit too grim, Flarsable. As far as I know, people were given enough time to evacuate the danger zone.

Anyway, as someone who lives in the country right next to Chile I was well aware of the situation. In fact, the quake was felt in some parts of my country as well, but it didn't cause any damage. I hope everything turned out OK for you, Decku.

WHen did the tsunami start? I feel like knowing a good approximation as to when it will hit. But wait, will it be hitting other places too, like Centarl America?

It's already past. And Flarsable, Antarctross is right, that was kind of some dark humour. >_< You're lucky I don't dislike you. Thanks for the concern Antarctross - we had some big swells, but it looked like most of the impact was lost at sea. Took a bit to get power back and the whole city is still at a bit of a standstill here.

Am I the only one that's noticed an oddly large number of natural disasters recently? I mean, where I live the weather is usually boring, and in the last year we've had a noticeable earthquake, a big blizzard, and a hurricane. Or maybe I'm just paranoid.

We got a warning that it might hit us here in Austrtalia but then something happened and it didn't hit. Something to do with the tide...

A magnitude of 8.8 is pretty bad... Chile was lucky as most of the houses are low and quake-proof.

In NE we keep getting reports of "huge blizzards" so they close all the schools, and then end up getting like an inch.

Weather's been pretty good to me this year.

Not me, but I've been told that the quake was indeed felt where I live as well. However, it was early in the morning, and it was already very weakened since I live way down south, far away from the epicenter. Thus, I slept through it!

That's what's happening to use too, ZeldaFan. We did actually have some really big snowstorms, two of which gave us over 25 inches of snow, but more recent ones have been predicted as huge and then turned out to be nothing.

Here in Colorado, you'd be expecting us to be building our own under-snow pathways by now (or at least something like that) but we haven't been getting much.

In Ireland, we don't get natural disasters. So when we get more than nine inches of snow, the whole country comes to a grinding halt due to lack of preparation. Not to mention the fact that the government wasn't sitting for most of the snowstorm. And the Minister for Transport was out of the country, so they had to give the job to the Minister for the Environment. Who announced the government didn't have enough salt to grit all the roads. At which point about a dozen private companies offered to give more than enough salt free of charge to the government. In Ireland, we don't get natural disasters, only man-made ones, like the Irish government.

Here in Shanghai, it snows for about two days in the Winter, and leaves about half an inch behind... ON CAR WINDOWS.
Really, there's no snow here. There's sleet, but no snow.
