i have been thinking lately, im an 8th grader and ive wondered why ballroom dancing is a standard, i really just makes all the losers who will prolly never get gf's bad and those who dont have someone just feel plain bad. i wish they would take that out as a standard

My school highly discourages any sort of romance, so we really don't do anything like dances. The closest thing we have is a banquet.

I'm in a combo elementary-middle school, so we have none of that. We DO have themed dances tho, like the last one was Hollywood. I chose not to go

We don't do school dances in Ireland; I'd be very surprised to hear of a school that has regular dances. The only thing we have is the Debs, what you Americans would call a Prom, which is for the graduating class of each year.

We have regurlur discos which are really fun, and the Debutine Ball. It's not compulsaury, so I am not doing it.

We have dances every few months and I go. They're fun. Food, friends, music. And what do you mean by ballroom dancing being a standard, Nog? The eighth graders at your school do ballroom dancing? I find that hard to believe. Maybe slow dancing, yes, but ballroom? I think not.

I'm not that familiar with dances, but ballroom dancing sounds a bit... absurd for 8th Grade.
Anyhow, we hold dances on important holidays, such as Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day. I only volunteer to go on Christmas. The spirit is nice.

@Gelatop: My school doesn't really believe in high school couples. They figure once you're out of school and have more free time, you could have a better relationship. Or something like that. I never truly understood why.

I see their reasoning, but I think high school students are at an age where they can think about who they want their companion to be.

I FROWN upon these relationships in students.
Nah, just kidding. Your schools sound very oppressing compared to ours and the ones I grew up in. Or, maybe I just wasn't aware of those rules. I was, quite frankly, always a big nerd, and never really "went out" with anyone, so to speak.

In my school, PDA is against the rules. For a lot of teachers, these rules are generally ignored, though with other, hand-holding gets you a glare and kissing gets you a verbal warning. Nonetheless, I've done all in my school. On the other hand, some of the teachers encourage relationships in spite of the rules, especially Ms. Walsh and Mr. Brennan and there's a "Best Couple" in the yearbook, as voted by the staff.

PDA is also banned in my school, but everyone does it anyway. The teachers can see them doing it and not care. It's as if the rule doesn't even exist...
