I agree, don't want more legendaries, though it's probably pretty inevitable. I've got few bias against legendaries, if you're curious as to why: 1.) they cannot be bred(as someone who breeds and trains every pokemon from before hatching to 100, this is a major setback), 2.) they're often ridiculously overpowered(what with average of 150 total stats over the "average" pokemon) 3.) they're also so horribly popular in the fandom it's sickening(Go search pokemon + any word in deviantArt or google imagesearch. I dare you.) 4.) they cannot be bred. Yeesh.

What they could do is some revamping of the combat system. Everything else they've changed, but in it's core, aside from the physical/special split from 3rd to 4th, the base combat system is still the same, and it could use some more spice. Movement, maybe? Speed affecting more than "who moves first"? Some way for the trainer to affect the combat with more than "pick one of four moves"? There is potential within the DS(/I) system, they could do with some creative revamping. This of course assuming they don't blow the bank and release a new handheld system, but that's very doubtful at this point of time.

A new type or two is a distinct possibility, but I don't hold it too likely. New type combinations? Yes, please! I don't want to see a single Normal/Flying, Bug/Flying, Water/Ground, Bug/Poison, Grass/Poison or the likes. Don't even get me started on the amount of pure water types. Like this site shows, there is an almost endless number of possible combinations

Further (ab)use of the physical/special split would be good, namely getting certain used-to-be special types some good physical moves, and vice versa. And moreover, new pokemon to use said things; a special attacking pure poison pokemon, physically inclined pure psychic pokemon... things like that; while not mandatory by any sense, they would add some depth to things.
