What sprites in particular? Also, what do you mean specifically by PokeGod? If you mean those super awesome splices known as PokeGods, I think there's a topic around here with them posted and a link to the site where he got them...

Those are very good work, actually. I'm referring to the PokeGods heavily rumored during the days of Red and Blue, such as Pikablu, Beepin, Charcoalt, Mewthree, etc. The Pokemon Factory was deeply involved in that back then, though they didn't necessarily intend anyone to believe their fakes were legitimate Pokemon or PokeGods.

The sprites I'm particularly interested in are the ones for Wizwar, Apocalypse, Dimonix, and Tyranticus.

Hello Redstar, and welcome to our board. Right now our most "senior" Staff member who still frequents the board is Poryhedron. Perhaps you could PM him with your enquiries. I can already tell you, though, that Wizwar and Tyranticus weren't made by us.

You're right right about Tyranticus and Wizwar. However, I didn't necessarily mean that they were made by the Pokemon Factory, but since they're grouped with the others I figured someone might know their origin as well.

As for the others, according to that site, Apocalypse was "Made-up by Maikatana" and "Drawn by Aspenth", Diminox was "Made-up by TPF" and "Drawn by Aspenth", and Raticlaw was "Made-up by darth maul" and "Drawn by Falcon".

The names of all of these sprites were rumored in some form as PokeGods, though whether the sprites came first or the rumors which inspired the sprites, I don't know. I'm trying to ascertain which came first. (I'll also PM Poryhedron about this, thanks for the suggestion)

I can tell you that. The rumors came first when generation two was approaching. People have been assuming many things about the incoming generation. People spread rumors about how to get these "gods" by doing crazy methods in the generation one games; most of them aren't theoretically possible. More info in the link.

If you click the "Pokémon Factory Advance" logo at the top of the board, you'll find our current web site with archives of our fan-made pokémon. The dexes you posted that have the "© www.PokemonFactory.com" notice can be found there. Unfortunately we went through a period of dormancy around the start of the 21st century that ended in a shakeup of the command structure, and probably because of that, we no longer have archived copies of dexes we made with ID numbers below 300.

I've been part of the Pokémon Factory community since early 1999 or so, but I wasn't made Staff until 2001, as part of the effort to revive the site, so I wasn't privy to everything at the time those guys were made...nonetheless, my experience with the way the community worked back then makes me at least 95% sure the people who originally suggested the appearances and dex data for these screenshots, like Maikatana and darth maul, had seen the names elsewhere from Pokégod rumors and decided to post them to PF with some added details to flesh it out. (Incidentally, in case you weren't sure, "TPF" as the suggestor of Diminox stands for The Pokémon Factory. The original staff apparently put that idea together themselves, most likely because they saw the associated rumor and thought it was cool enough to make a tribute.)

One thing I can say for certain is that Pokémon Factory has never tried to pretend our fan-made pokémon are actually in the games. Someone else might have taken species from our archives and tried to convince others they were real, but none of the Pokégod rumors in their most famous form were actually started here.

That is certainly a very insightful opinion on the subject. We were aware that the Pokemon Factory never marketed their sprites as PokeGods, but as fake Pokemon. I've actually encountered some instances of the Pokemon Factory sprites being claimed to be evidence of PokeGods, but they were very few and far between.

On subject, the fact that the sprites were actually inspired by the rumors rather than the other way around is very important information in putting together a timeline of the phenomenon. I wish I could ask the original spriters and suggesters, but it appears most are outside the fandom, if not simply just the Pokemon Factory community. Anyways, thanks for the help. If anything else comes to mind, feel free to say so. (Also, what is the connection between the Pokemon Factory and the Pokemon Lab, if any? I notice that "The Lab" is the section that does the creating, so it's likely it's an alternate name for the same group)

There's no relation actually, it's just a coincidence. Our "lab" is the forum in which we store threads dedicated to reviewing pokémon suggestions.

I completely forgot to ask one thing! Was the name "Pokemon Factory" derived from the code where you beat the Elite Four thirty times without talking to anyone and you would be allowed to explore a secret city of PokeGods, sometimes called the "Pokemon Factory", or is it possible that variation of the code came after the site?

There's also several PokeGods we plan to discuss that had corresponding Pokemon Factory sprites. Would we be allowed to use them, and, if so, what would the best way be for us to credit the Pokemon Factory? (As in, is there a specific legal line, or can we just word it any particular way?)

I'm guessing that the name of the site isn't related to that code, but I can't know for sure. There's no problem with using the sprites of the classic archive, but keeping the entire dex is preferable if possible (for later generations, it is necessary). As for credit, simply mentioning the site and adding a link should suffice.

There were so many names offered for the same supposed city in that code, it's hard to know which was first. It could easily have been the "Pokemon Factory", or just as easily "PokeGod Land", "Brick Town", "Cloud City", etc. As it is now, I wrote that the Pokemon Factory site took its name from that code, but then I realized that that was just an assumption so I wanted to check. It's more probable someone changed the code to use the site's name either as a reference or gag.

We're actually writing very few articles that would use the Pokemon Factory (classic) sprites, so I can't see an efficient way to use all of them simply for preference. However, perhaps our two sites can affiliate once we get much of our information off files and onto the web? Considering the intimately-connected history of the two subjects, it would make sense. I suppose I'll ask one of the staff members when the time is appropriate.

Antarctros by meant by "entire dex" the complete dex shot, not the entire classic archive. So, it's perfectly fine to use just a couple of dex shots to illustrate your articles, as long as you show the entire dex shot as opposed to taking the sprite out of its dex (which happens sometimes...)

The art style of #1 Floreon is immediately recognizable to me; it's the work of Legion, a former PF Staff member. She joined the site late in its first (20th century) incarnation, with the job title of Poster Artist, and when the site went down she was instrumental in keeping the community alive by inviting everyone who hung out there to move to the message board of her own site, i.Vector. I suppose the others might also be her work. I'm not sure where the name "Roo" comes from...when someone joins PF Staff they create a pokémon to serve as their new avatar, so I suppose maybe she called herself Roo before she joined us and became Legion. I doubt that, though, because on i.Vector she also used the name SaranJO, and I'm fairly sure she had been SaranJO since before she was Legion...I'm afraid I don't remember why Poster Art #1 names the pokémon Floreon when our Leaf Stone Eeveelution was named Foleon, though. That may have just been an error on Legion's part that the rest of the staff decided wasn't important enough to correct, or something...

Interesting. Do you suppose there's any way to contact her? I'd like to have the posters in case the site goes down, but no right-clicking is allowed. I'm finding a lot of old Pokemon Factory sprites and work, some of which isn't even included in the ocf.berkely archives.

When all else fails use the Print Screen button.

Just in case it is unknown to some of you out there, it copies a picture of the entire screen onto your clipboard, so you can literally press PrtScr to copy and paste whatever is on your screen.

We've been working on our actual site for several weeks now, and have since moved all our Angelfire information as well as some new/updated work to it. The layout and organization is nowhere near complete, but much of the information is as up-to-date as can be at this point.

So, for anyone interested, some of the Pokemon Factory's sprites are touched on under the Dimonix, Flareth, and Doomsay and Doomsday articles (at this moment arranged on the same page as sections) and can be read here: The PokeGods: Secrets and Rumors.

Feel free to offer and advice or comments, and thanks for all the previous help. We've yet to expand the Pokemon Factory section under "Rumor Mills", as we were focusing on previous work, but may very well have an update per Poryhedron's statements sometime soon.
