My idea of a story.
Long ago, the 5 legendaries, (made by use 5 helpers) controlled different important aspects, just as the official legendaries control important aspects. These 5, all different in their own ways, would fight constantly. There seemed to be no end to this, until one day, a mega-legendary in control of something really important, (to be chosen by Haz) appeared and used a special item, known as the Orb of Peace, to stop the fighting. This mega-legendary brought the 5 legendaries together and created a "council" of legendaries that would govern over the region. The 5 agreed to never fight again. That is, until present day...
And, in said present day, a new day has dawned on our young hero(ine). They wake up, remembering that this is the day they get to choose a starter. They quickly rush out of bed, say good-bye to their parents (I thought it would be interesting for the hero(ine) to actually have a dad) and run over to the lab. However, when they get to the lab, it's locked! They stand there, wondering where Professor Cedar (just my name to keep with the whole "wood" theme) could be, when they hear a scream. They run over to the exit of the town, and see Professor Cedar backing away from some other people, dressed in black from head to toe. She sees you (yes, Professors can be female) and signals to you to grab a Pokeball from her bag she dropped. Unfortunately, the thugs see her motions and turn around. You quickly rush over and grab a Pokeball out of the bag (which of course, will be your starter) and begin the fight. (OOC: Since your first fight is against trainers, and not a random Pokemon, I think you should purposely lose, and then while you're distracting them, the Professor pulls out one of her own Pokemon and defeats the thugs.) After the thugs run away, the Professor walks up to you and thanks you. She asks that you keep the Pokemon you used, seeing how well you fought for your first fight (even though you lost). She asks that you come back to her lab so she can get you started on your journey. When you arrive at the lab, Professor Cedar hands you your Pokedex, and 5 Pokeballs. She then sends you out on your journey to become a Pokemon master!
(OOC: The black thugs are part of Team Corruption, a team of humans who have dedicated their lives to finding the Council of Legendaries and stealing the Orb of Peace to start the 5 legendaries fighting again. After they have caused serious damage to the world, Team Corruption will bring out the Orb of Peace again, claiming that the mega-legendary stole it, and taking its place as ruler of the Council. The hero(ine) will try and prevent this by defeating the leader, Venalies (the latin word for corruption), and revealing the truth to the Council, hopefully preventing the end of the world.)

How was that?

Oooh. Good point. Maybe you can change it so that it doesn't become Electric until later? I mean, Torterra's Ground type is super-effective against Infernape.
