I thought the Pokethlon was in Johto. Kanto has the Battle Frontier in the anime.

There are competitions for Flying- and Wind-type pokémon every day in vantos Village, as stated in the town info page. I think we haven't specified which kind of competitions, but I believe there's no problem with being creative with them. Prizes should be discussed with Squirrelay first, though.

There's also the magic shows put by the University in Vintage City, I guess those could be treated as the main event of a short festival.

Antarctros puts all good points. Discussing prizes with me sounds like a good idea. As for the types of competitions, there is no Battle Frontier, official Pokethlon, or Contests in Bombur. All in all though, you can make up any reasonable smaller competitions and local festivals you'd like.

Here's a fun Idea
Every once and a while a topic could be made for like, a grand tournement!
And all characters who have beaten the Elite four could enter!

Elite Four? I don't think that contest will be made for a long time. Nobody's nearly that far.

It's true. We'll be lucky to have an established Pokémon Master within five years, I suspect.

I do like the idea, though. This is something I've used before in Pokémon forum RPs. Instead of "League Champion", beating the Elite Four would earn you the title "Pokémon Master", and then there are annual "Master Tournaments" that are only open to Pokémon Masters, and the winner of the Master Tournament is League Champion for the year.

I'm not sure how well that would work with Bombur's setup, though...the staff would probably need to discuss it.

Maybe it could be reversed, because I think that "League Master" is a lower title than "Pokemon Master". So maybe the "Master Tournament" is a competition for the title of Pokemon Master, not open to the Masters.

Hm, that sounds good. In that scenario, beating the Elite Four would grant you the title of League Champion as before, and winning the Master Tournament would grant you the title of Pokémon Master.
Heh, that's somewhat similar to trying and defeating Red all the way at the end of HG/SS ^-^

What's this? I don't remember ever owning a copy of Red or Blue. FireRed and LeafGreen? Yes. Red or Blue? No. So I wouldn't know. Unless he says the same thing in FR/LG... but even then, I wouldn't remember. I haven't played a Gen 3 game in over a year.

Lance says, according to Bulbapedia, in Red/Blue the following once you defeat him:

"That's it! I hate to admit it, but you are a Pokémon master!
"I still can't believe my dragons lost to you, (player)! You're now the Pokémon League champion! …Or, you would have been, but you have one more challenge ahead. You have to face another Trainer! His name is… (rival)! He beat the Elite Four before you. He is the real Pokémon League champion!"

So, defeating Lance makes you a Pokémon Master, but defeating your rival takes you a title higher, and makes you League Champion.

With this in mind, Pory's idea about the Master Tournament sounds perfect indeed ^-^
