Wait, then what is a ???? type then? I always thought it was a move that has no definite type.

Exactly. Hidden Power has no definite type. Natural Gift has a definite type, Normal, but you can change it by giving your Pokemon different berries.

Let's give it the formal definition. A ????-type move, at least for PF, is a move whose type and effect depends on the individual characteristics of the pokémon that uses it, or the pokémon it is used against. Natural Gift depends on the berry the pokémon holds, but not the pokémon itself, so it isn't ????.

Splitstrike is an exception, however, as it is included in ???? because it deals damage of two different types in the same turn.
