After a few moments the door to the lab was opened by a young man in a lab coat. "Hello there, here for your first pokemon? Come on in," he said. He held the door open for Joshua as he continued speaking. "My name is Aaron, and I'm Prof. Idaho's aid. The professor is away at the moment, but I can take care of anything you need. Now then, do you know which pokemon you'd like, or would you like me to tell you what we have?"

"Alright then," Aaron said. He directed the boy to a couple of tables in the middle of the lab that had several groups of pokeballs. He pointed to the group that was slightly apart from the rest and said, "These pokeballs have the random pokemon. Choose any one you like, then let it out so we can see what your new pokemon is."

"Alright," Aaron said. "Just pick it up and toss it on the floor. That'll open the pokeball and release your new pokemon."

(OOC: I'll assume it's your character's ignorance (and perhaps prejudice), but not all rodents are rats. Gerbils are similar in general body structure to mice, though. )

Aaron noted that Josua was less than thrilled about his new pokemon, but there was always that risk when someone chose a random starter. He could only hope that the boy would become good friends with his Gervil in time. "Certainly," Aaron said. "Just return it to its ball, then place the ball in the scanner." He pointed to a machine in one corner that had a slot for a pokeball and a screen on its front.

(OOC: Sorry for the delay, Gervil didn't have a movelist yet so we had to make it one. Also, I was away for a weekend. Gervil and it's evolutions' movelists are at the end of this post.)

The machine's screen soon lit up with some information:

"Now then," Aaron said. "There's something else we need to do before you head out. Follow me, please." He led Joshua through a door at the back of the lab, which opened to a room with no ceiling. It also had a living carpet of grass for a floor, with rows of white flowers growing in it which marked out the lines for a pokemon battlefield.

"Your lask task here is your first Gym battle, against me!" accnounced Aaron.

Aaron tossed out his own pokeball, calling "Come on out, Nevermore." As soon as his bird pokemon materialized, it was slammed into by Gervil.

"Don't let it get the upper hand," Aaron said. "Growl to keep it back."

His pokemon was annoyed that its opponent had been so swift, and wasted no time in growling at the rodent.
