Yeah... I was confused about that too. One hit from my Typhlosion and the Houndoom went squish. In fact, most of the E4 was one-shots for me, since I pretty much only level my starter, and he's a good 20-25 levels above all of the E4's Pokemon.

I level my Pokemon evenly, so they're on par. That becomes a problem against Lance when everyone dies because he's that much stronger.

I tried keeping a team of all same-level Pokemon up to about lvl. 25, then ditched the rest and then just mega-leveled my Typhlosion. Now, he just about sneezes and knocks out just about anything I come across.

Yeah, a few of the Kanto leaders gave me some trouble. And I had to bring over some legendaries from my Platinum to beat Blue, including my Arceus, my Giratina, and my Darkrai. With them and a ton of Hyper Potions, Blue actually didn't give me much trouble.

Brock is weird- when he's on his last pokemon he says something like "Ooh! It itches!" O_o I was way overleveled for the Mt. Moon rival fight- I only had to use 4 pokemon, only one of which fainted. Then I went straight to Dragon's Den and all of a sudden his pokemon have gained 10 levels each.

Just beat Lance. And my Raticate survived a Selfdestruct form someone on he S.S. Aqua.

I slightly opted out of my "no items" rule and healed my party to full/near-full before Lance. And still I only had 12hp left on my Aerodactyl when I beat him o.O;

Yeah, I know, it's Red with his level 88 Pikachu. And it takes forever to train, but I kind of cheat by rebattling the same Trainers (Gym Leaders included) over and over and over again.

I cheat even more. I trade my HeartGold team to Platinum where its easier to rematch trainers and there are wild pokemon over level 50.

That's how I play. My final team is a Typhlosion, Crobat, Ampharos, and Starmie from HeartGold, and my Torterra and Arceus from Platinum. It works just great.

I'm not talking a couple. They get up to like the 8th badge or something, get stuck, and trade over their team of level 100s (or level 50s, if they're going for the last badge) and then just use those guys for the rest of the game. Using just a few pokemon on your team is different.

Ah ok. I can't imagine that, even if you do like using one team. It would get really boring after a while. The game loses all of its challenge if you do that.
