" . . . And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that with it Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits, in Thy mercy." And the Lord did grin and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats and large . . . And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it." Amen" -Monty Python, Quest for the Holy Grail

Romulus looked at Aaron, cautious. He hesitated, then hurriedly grabbed the first pokeball his hands could reach. Looking at Aaron, he smiled sheepishly, but closed his mouth quickly. He hoped against hope this stranger hadn't seen them. He shook his head slightly, as if to ward off his doubts, and threw the pokeball in the air.

Romulus looked at the pokemon and almost cried. Of all the pokemon that exist, he thought, I had to get one that reminds me of Poochyena. "Come here," Romulus cried, and Lupup, somewhat hesitantly, came to his arms and Romulus cradled it a bit before returning it to its pokeball. He looked up at Aaron, embarrassed by his unusually soft behavior, and asked, " . . . Uh . . . What now?"

The machine hummed mechanically for a moment before the screen lit up, displaying some information: LUPUP Lv. 5 Female Gst/Nrm Moves: Scratch [Nrm] Scratches the foe with sharp claws. Growl [Nrm] Growls cutely to reduce the foe's ATTACK. Once Aaron judged that Romulus had had enough time to read the information, he said, "Now there's one more thing to do before you head off. Please follow me," he said, then led the trainer through the back door he'd noticed. The door led to another room, except this one had no machines at all. Instead it was mostly open space, though it had no ceiling and a floor covered with grass. There were rows of white flowers in the ground, which marked out the lines of a pokemon battlefield. "Your first battle as a pokemon trainer shall be against me...and it's also your first Gym battle!" announced Aaron. Gym Leader AARON Wants to Fight!

"Brace for impact!" Romlus called, knowing Nevermore was too fast to dodge. Lupup obeyed. His fur, however, took on a strange quality, and somehow, amazingly, Nevermore missed, seeming to go right through the cub pokemon. "Wha?" Romulus, though confused, only let it cloud his judgement for a small time. "Scratch it, Lupup!" He called with a swing of his arm. He knew Nevermore would be off balance after hitting the ground at top speed. This is easy. I've fought harder gangs while on the streets. Actually, we have, he thought, glancing at the bulge in his pocket that was the rusty pokeball, tears once more brimming his eyes.

"Try to dodge!" Romulus shouted, knowing Lupup could dodge the attack due to Nevermore being hesitant. As Lupup dodged, he called, "Growl!" hoping to disorientate the opponent's pokemon more.
