Skwurilulu wrote: I've wondered that as well, but this only appears in the games as far as I can tell. In the anime the pokedex is already filled and they help young trainers on their journeys. Here's my reasoning for the old people getting younger people to do the work: the best way to understand Pokemon is to travel with them, go through trials with them, and you will see their true colors, more so than field work. It's the same thing with real animals, the most compelling discoveries are found from studying wild animals. When you're old things become more difficult and if you think about it, the things you go through in the game would require a lot of energy. Running around from town to town on foot, battling with others trainers and gym leaders, fighting against villainous organizations that try to shape the world to their own desires. I see in my minds eye that Professor Oak or Professor Rowan wouldn't be up to such tasks. In the case of Professor Elm and Professor Birch, two younger Pokemon researchers, I would like to think that you as the character are one more thing that helps with their own studies. I mean Prof. Birch actually went out and traveled around just like you did, except his study was much more focused and organized. Sorry for rambling ^.^'. It was fun though.
